HEAD FOOTBALL COACH – DAVE POTTER
Dave has been a Durham resident for the past 25 years. He has spent the past 14 years coaching football with the Durham Eagles Athletic Association. A head coach since 1999, his teams have won ten Consolidated Football Federation championships since 2000, have gone undefeated eight times and have won 91 of their last 94 conference games dating back to 1999. Five times in the past eight years, his teams have finished in the “Top 16” football teams in the nation. A firm believer in the importance of academics, his teams have had 44 “Academic All-Americans.” His passion and commitment to academic success lead to his development of the Durham Eagles “Academic Hall of Fame” program in 2002. This program has been further developed to include character-building and leadership development. His written work, “Character, Academics and Leadership: The CAL Program” is used as a model by more than sixty youth sports organizations around the country. He was instrumental in bringing in the educational tutoring firm, “Supplemental Learners” to partner with the DEAA so that his players had access to tutoring throughout the season. His academic emphasis led to the formation of the “Elite Eagles” college scholarship program in which $27,000 has been raised for all Eagles players who plan to attend college. He has been nominated for the Positive Coaching Alliance “Double – Goal” Coach Award for 2011.
Dave joined the football staff of Kestrel Heights in their inaugural season of 2009. He spent the first two years as Offensive Coordinator. He was named Head Coach on November 1, 2010.

Dealing with Parents
MAKE NO MISTAKE:
WE ARE ALL ABOUT WINNING!
Dealing with Parents
Our demands are to:
•Win in the classroom•Win at home
•Win on the football field
Dealing with Parents
“I don’t determine your son’s playing time.
Your son determines his playing time.”
Dealing with Parents
“At this age group, there is no decision
that I make regarding his position
or his playing time that will affect
his ability to get a D1 scholarship.”
Dealing with Parents
Be willing to explain (not defend) your
actions and decisions.
NFL & NCAA coaches have to explain themselves
in the post-game press conference, the mid-week press conference
and on the coaches show.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?
Most Commonly Heard “Goals”:
“Our goal is for the kids to learn the fundamentals
and to have fun.”
Teaching them the fundamentals shouldn’t be a “GOAL.”
That should be a GIVEN.
Goals are what you aspire to achieve.
They are not the lowest common denominator.
What is your vision?
Are you coaching a team
or building a program?
“It doesn’t matter if you are the best.
What matters is that you are working to be.”
--Chuck Priefer, Detroit Lions Assistant Coach
“Be great in the things that are easy.”
--Coach Mike Krzyzewski
“Please share your ideas
and ‘Good News’ with me.”
