Progress Through Partnerships
Who we are
Founded in 1964 as the people-to-people component of the Alliance for Progress
Partners of the Americas (Partners) is the largest private voluntary organization in the Western Hemisphere
What We Do
Partners turns ideas into action. We envision a hemisphere in which opportunity is abundant for all and dreams are not bound by borders.
Partners cultivates opportunity across borders. We do this by mobilizing volunteers and resources, creating alliances, implementing development projects, and building the capacity of grassroots organizations.
How we are organized
Each of the organization’s 60 “partnerships” links a state or region of the U.S. with an area in Latin America or the Caribbean.
A “partnership” consists of two chapters - such as Texas and Peru
A Partnership Uruguay-Minnesota
Each side of a partnership is organized as a private, nonprofit institution in its respective community
Each chapter decides what projects they will carry out
Types of Work
Activities include work to improve food production,
deliver health services, provide job training to
young people, protect the region’s natural resources
and safeguard the rights of women and children.
Programs and Partnerships
Chapters leverage in-kind and financial contributions to support its work, often multiplying each dollar invested by another $10 in donated goods and services
Institutional linkages and affiliations help ensure on-going support to projects.
Promoting Citizen Participation
Involved citizens are essential to a strong society and healthy communities
Through volunteering citizens share their skills to solve common problems and promote broader participation in resolving them
Promoting Citizen Participation
