Hinkley Community Members See Remediation Progress Up Close As part of PG&E's commitment to stakeholder outreach, interested community members were the latest to tour PG&E’s remediation facilities in Hinkley. The tour was conducted this summer and provided Hinkley residents a first-hand look into PG&E’s remediation project to learn about the latest technologies and sustainability practices used in our clean-up efforts. Residents were especially curious to learn more about the new bioreactor pilot test. In December of last year, the Lahontan Water Board approved PG&E’s proposal to conduct pilot testing for a new remedial technology for the Hinkley groundwater cleanup. In the same way that agricultural and in-situ treatment create natural conditions in the ground for chromium 6 to convert to chromium 3, the pilot test utilizes above-ground tanks to treat chromium 6 impacted groundwater. If successful, this new technology may serve to complement agricultural and in-situ treatment systems already in use. Tour participants also took notice of the 84 acres of new agricultural treatment areas brought online over the last year. PG&E often works with interested stakeholders to provide these educational exchanges that both benefit our programs and allow on-the-ground observation of these sustainable remediation technologies. In addition to community focused tours, over the past few years, Barstow High School students, the Mojave Water Agency, Riverside Public Utilities and faculty and students from Grossmont College, Victor Valley College and Stanford University have all toured our facilities in an effort to learn more about our programs and progress.

¡Bien hecho Rollicking Ranchers!
