Future-proofing the Bruce Establish an independent Bruce Highway Trust and appoint a pre-eminent Queenslander (Peter Garske) as Chair of the Trust. Representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning and the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development will be invited to join the Trust to provide subject matter and governance expertise.



Future-proofing the Bruce Once established, the Bruce Highway Trust will develop a new 15-year vision for the Bruce Highway. The Trust will identify and prioritise projects to be delivered through rolling five-year Action Plans. The Trust will be provided with $10 million over two years for the development of the 15-year vision and initial Action Plan.



Future-proofing the Bruce Work with the Federal Government to ensure that savings made during the $8.5 billion 10-year Bruce Highway Upgrade Program are reinvested along the Bruce Highway and not reallocated to other States.



Future-proofing the Bruce Provide $30 million to deliver targeted investments (i.e. for wide centreline treatments and rest areas) in safety hotspots along the Bruce Highway.

Action may include: - installing anti-heavy-vehicle signage along Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Kessels Road and Granard Road - compliance staff using mobile, automatic numberplate-recognition devices to identify the heavy vehicles flouting the road rules.

Up to $5 million to introduce a special Back to Work Boost for six months for mature-aged jobseekers aged 55 and over. Under the Boost, employers who take on a mature-aged jobseeker will be eligible for up to $20,000.






Appoint a prominent Queenslander as an Ambassador for mature-aged-friendly workplaces.



Establish an awards program to recognise and showcase Queensland businesses that demonstrate best practice in employing older workers.



Work Ready Queensland: Extending the Back to Work Program Implement the Sticking Together program pilot to trial an intensive 60-week coaching and mentoring service for 90 young disadvantaged jobseekers and recently-employed young people in Cairns, Townsville and Logan – 30 in each location.

Around $100,000 will be provided to complete stage two of the bird rehabilitation enclosure and possum enclosure at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.



$40,500 will be provided to the Australia Zoo's Wildlife Warriors for land restoration.



$45,000 to build 10 demountable koala enclosures at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital to support the rehabilitation of injured animals.



$10,000 to Moore Park Indooroopilly Bushcare for new interpretive signage to highlight the park's conservation values.






Support collaboration with the Commonwealth Department of Environment, specifically the sharing of information, to support nominations for protection of the scalloped hammerhead Sphyrna lewini and the great hammerhead Sphyrna mokarran for the consideration of the Commonwealth Government's Threatened Species Scientific Committee, so that the Queensland Species Technical Committee (STC) can consider them for inclusion as protected species under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld).

This commitment has been superseded by the Commonwealth Government’s decision to list the scalloped hammerhead shark as ‘conservation dependent’.



Allocate $105,000 to Surf Life Saving Queensland to expand their involvement in the Crocwise education program.



Undertake a comprehensive review of the biodiversity offsets framework.



Work with stakeholders to progress and implement the recommendations of Koala Expert Panel.



Finalise the investigation into issues relating to Section 5a of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 and Section 7 of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2011. Consult on the findings of that investigation with relevant stakeholders before deciding on a way forward.



Consult with industry, local government and community stakeholders to develop and adopt a Waste Avoidance and Resource Productivity Strategy for Queensland.

Saving Habitat, Protecting Wildlife and Restoring Land Consult with the World Wildlife Fund Australia and other stakeholders to establish a flagship $500 million Land Restoration Fund. The Land Restoration Fund will be established through an initial $30 million contribution from the Queensland Government, with capital of $500 million to be raised through the issuance of a State Government Green Bond. An advisory board will be established to give expert advice to government on the operation of the Fund.



$1.73 million to help Great Barrier Reef islands cut their emissions. The funding will assist islands to develop business cases for solar, wind and gas generation.



Contribute $3 million to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation's $14 million, five-year program to boost the climate resilience of the Great Barrier Reef islands.



Implement a pledge initiative to encourage pollution reduction from State and local government own operations as well as from key emitting sectors of the economy.






Develop a plastic pollution reduction plan for Queensland.



Develop options for implementing the proposals outlined in the Heritage Working Group's final report from July 2017.



An extra $5 million for 'eco-lodges' to accommodate tourists taking part in a multi-day walk on Whitsunday Island.



$2.78 million for the construction of a 20 kilometre multi-day walking track to connect Whitehaven Beach to Tongue Point.



$1.2 million for expansions to Whitehaven Beach day use areas and camping grounds.



$2 million to upgrade and expand Hill Inlet Lookout.*



Funding for the Mount Archer National Park walkways in Rockhampton*.






$3 million for the Glass House Mountains National Park which will see the park's facilities receive a major upgrade, improving visitor activities including bushwalking, trail running, mountain biking and horse riding.



A $2.11 million upgrade to Daintree National Park for a new boardwalk through the forest, as well as walking tracks and lookouts.



$1.48 million for a new Binna Burra Visitor Centre and walking track upgrades in Lamington National Park.



Invest $3 million in D'Aguilar National Park.



An extra $2.4 million, on top of the already committed $10 million, to redevelop the Mon Repos Turtle Centre.*



Commence a trial in the first half of 2018 to determine the feasibility of side-by-side vehicle use on lands under state management.*

Provide $53.8 million, over four years, and $1.3 million in capital for a QPS security and counter terrorism command (SCTC) with a dedicated Assistant Commissioner. There will be 85 new counter-terrorism specialists spread across the State. This is additional to the 30 counter-terrorism police positions funded in the 2017-18 Budget.



Provide funding to deliver the general growth police recruitment commitments, comprising 400 new police officers over four years for areas of high priority across the State. This is in addition to the 20 police positions provided in the 2017-18 Budget.



Reopen a police beat in Newtown, Toowoomba.



$5.92 million for an additional 1400 apple iPad QLiTE policing devices.*



$20 million to fund the overtime of frontline officers in Safe Night Precincts.






Review suspension-without-pay provisions to ensure that police officers are provided similar workplace protections as other public sector workers, except where the unique nature of policing requires special provision.

Establish a taskforce to review the Queensland Police Service's regional, district and divisional structures and appropriate leadership.

In 2018, transfer and repurpose the former Department of Primary Industries Biosecurity lab on the corner of Darter and Colvin streets, Oonoonba, for The Oasis Townsville (TOT) to provide a one-stop shop for welfare support and employment transition services to ex-Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their families.






An extra $1 million over four years, for Foodbank Queensland and YMCA Brisbane to expand the School Breakfast Program to an additional 62 schools and 8080 kids across the State.



$200,000 to the Bundaberg Central Men's Shed to build a new shed.



$4.1 million over four years for a new community centre in the Kallangur area. The community will be consulted to determine which services are most needed and where the centre should be built.



Build a $3 million Moranbah Community Youth Hub.



Provide $4 million per annum for disability advocates for two years (to 2020-21) after full transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).



An additional $750,000 for the Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) to provide peer-to-peer advocacy for people with disability who are yet to enter the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).



Re-negotiate existing bilateral arrangements in the interests of achieving the best possible outcomes for people with disability.



Invite representatives from the Queensland Disability Network to meet with the Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and Seniors to plan and advise on the best path forward to "safeguard the ability of Queenslanders with a disability to get affordable transport".



Representatives from Spinal Life will be invited to meet with the Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and Seniors.

Up to $400,000 to tackle fruit flies in Bundaberg and fund a pilot trial in regional agriculture data collection with Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers.






Work with industry to help minimise costs associated with vessel tracking and to ensure the rules applied are practical and achievable for smaller boats and fishing operations that use multiple boats.*



Modernise the recreational fisheries app and develop a commercial fisheries app.



Provide an extra $100,000 to each of the Rockhampton, Mackay and Cairns Regional Councils to help promote their net-free zones.



Analyse feedback from the discussion paper on the Charter Fishing Action Plan to produce a final Charter Fishing Action Plan.*
