EDUCATION:After School program: the objective of the program is to make the student able to gain their class appropriate qualities. We have taken class III & IV of some selected School under this program, where government has not been able to provide sufficient RTE mandated teacher. As a result of Sarba Shiksha Misson’s School Chollo Abhijan the rate of enrolment in the primary School have been noticeably increased and dropout rate is also decreased, But many of them still not learning the basics. For RTE’s no detention rules they are promoted up to class VIII without learning the basics. Trouble seems to come when they are appearing in the admission test of class IX, many of them could not pass and education ends there. Some however get chance for admission become drop out failing to follow the standard of the class. Through our “After School Program” we are trying to fulfill the gaps. Our teacher helps students of class three and four to gain the class appropriate qualities in them through special classes after School hours. In 2013 as a pilot initiative we started the program at Susnidi, Hatinada and Pardi primary Schools with consultation of Sub Inspector of School Baghmundi – Circle – I. In 2014 we extended the program at Gillingserang, Vitpani, Usuldungri and Chirugora Primary Schools.

Specification on “After School Program”

1. The after School centers run in the campus of the related Primary Schools of the village. Related village community people settled this in consultation with the related teachers of the primary Schools. So the teachers extend their hands of cooperation for running the centers smoothly. There are drinking water facilities (tube well) in all the Schools. There are also playground near the School at Hatinada and Pardi but there is no open space for playing near the School at Susnidi and the children have to go far for playing.

2. Besides teaching the children, the teachers do home visit and consult with the guardians about the progress of the children, proper health care if needed and request them to send the children regularly in the classes, so the student teacher relationship is very good.

3. Not only the guardians but the other community members also extend their hands of cooperation for the smooth running of the centers. Time to time the teachers give hand hold support to the community members to obtained NREGS jobs, Ration card, Birth certificate, KCC etc. and aware them to get their children timely proper immunization and other government services.

5. Monthly review meeting is done in every month. Monthly work report is taken and monthly work plan for the next month is also prepared in the meeting. Quarterly review meeting is also done once in every three month. In house refresher training is also arranged time to time in order to develop the skill of the teachers on teaching, livelihood development and health care management of the community.

Comment of Graphs (Class III):

Bengali - From Analysis language skill one may see that Hatinada Centre has ranked top and Jilling Sereng is at lease position. If we group the centres Hatinda. Sushnidih Pardi are in Good position and Jilling Sereng, Usuldungri, Chirugora, and Bhitpani are weak in performance. The reason is that good performed centres are started before one year than the weak performed centres. No centre has Bengali as their mother tongue.

English – Among three topics under evolution – Bengali, English & Numerical English has scored the lowest performance in al centres except Usuldungri. Here for all the centres mother tongue is Santali, Bengali second language and English is far away. We have introduced it anyway. Here is also the same picture of improvement is reflected Old group centres (Three) have scored better.

Numerical – Sushnidih has the top performance in numerical ability. Hatinda Though in second position but lacking reciprocal growth in Bengali and English. But astonishingly Bhitpani (New centre) has got third position in overall improvement.

General comments: This is a good learning for us for staffs quality development . Hatinada teachers need skill building on numerical aspects. Sushnidi teachers need improvement in English. Pardi teachers need improvement on all the three topics. On the other hand Bhitpani has a quick growth and almost touched Pardi performance though started after one year. Here a team skill building has come out as an emerging need. Project feeds there is a need of sharing of skills and experiences among the teachers team. It will be better if we can manage one trainer (Preferably B.ed) for quality development of our teachers’ team.

Comment of Graphs (Class IV): Bengali - Being old centres Hatinada, Sushnidi, Pardi are shown top growth in Bengali while the new centres are not far behind. Here we may remarkable changes than class three performances. The performance growth among students has started after one year nourishment.

English – Pardi and Bhitpani have scored top most. Others centres have also improved Sushnidi and Jilling Sereng teachers need skill building in English.

Numerical ability – Sushnidi and Jilling Seren are at top while Usuldungri is at Bottom.

Overall Comment: It is seen that in class three there is slow improvement between two evaluations but in class IV the improvement is good. This is because students take one year to start their learning. In real sense learning starts from beginning at our after school centres. After one year they start their growth. So change is visible in class IV level.
