139 PROGRAMME TITLE: ROOTING DEMOCRACY IN KENYA THROUGH AN INFORMED CITIZENRY 1.1 Description of the Trust: Uraia Trust is Kenya's premier National Civic Education Programme established with a mission to facilitate the provision of quality civic education and practical mechanisms for citizen engagement in public affairs. Its Vision is "to be a leading National organization supporting the democratic transformation of Kenya". 1.2 Introduction and description of the Call: Uraia Trust wishes to invite Civil Society Organisations (that include Non-Governmental Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, Community Based Organizations, Trusts, organisations working with People living with disability etc.) to participate in the implementation of the above 2014 - 2015 programme: Rooting Democracy in Kenya through an Informed Citizenry. . 2.0 Objectives of the Call: The goal of the programme is to contribute towards promoting, securing and defending constitutionalism in Kenya for improved democracy and realization of a just and equitable society. The specific objectives of this programme are: 1. Increasing the knowledge and awareness levels of citizens on the Constitution and national and county legislations in relation to devolution, citizen participation, bill of rights, and judiciary. 2. Facilitating the internalization of ttie implication and application of the 'Constitution for members of the county governments, both the executive and assemblies. 3. Facilitating citizens with practical mechanisms to participate in governance and influence policy processes, monitor performance of national and county governments, and demand accountability. £.- The Call is for the following target counties: Baringo, Bomet, Busia, Garissa, Kakamega, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Mandera, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Tana River, Wajir and West Pokot. Interested institutions must have a physical presence i.e., fully functional offices in the county with preference to those that. are headquartered in the specific county applied for; 3.0 Application Procedures: Interested organizations should refer to Uraia's website: www.uraia.or;ke for.full details regarding this call in respect to expected results, application requirements and procedures, eligibility criteria, and concept paper guidelines.
