Being born a girl and woman in Africa

Naître fille et femme en Afrique

Vendredi 16 octobre 2015 à 11hthFriday 16 October 2015 at 11am

Lady Kwali Hall, Sheraton Abuja Hotel

Me, Sir, Me! tells the story of a child born in Senegal, who, like many others, was given to her aunt, her cousin, her uncle ...It is also the story, sometimes comical, of all those girls mistreated and abused, who raise their heads to find a place in society.By using clowns and puppets as tools, the actress shows, with humour, the difficulty of being born a girl and woman.

A modern Nigerian family drama

Vendredi 4 et samedi 5 decembre 2015 à 19h th thFriday 4 and Saturday 5 December 2015 at 7pm daily

Institut Français du Nigeria

“Last Stand” is the first in a new series of modern Nigerian family dramas written by Sefi Atta, and the play is about a battle of wills between a dying general and his estranged heirs. When General Mashood Balogun on his deathbed decides to leave his estate to his first son Rotimi, bypassing his daughters, he creates an uproar in his family. Rotimi, a medical doctor, refuses to step into his father’s shoes, and his father stands firm in his bid to make Rotimi his successor. As the Balogun family conflict plays out, Rotimi in the end is forced to look after his dying father. But who will win the final face-off between father and son?

Born in Lagos, Sefi Atta has won awards for plays and short stories which have been published in Nigeria, the UK and the US. Sefi's production company Atta Girl supports Care to Read, a program she initiated to earn funds for legitimate charities through staged readings. She currently divides her time between Nigeria, England and the United States and lives in the US with her husband and daughter. At the Alliance française of Enugu

Life In My City Art Festival Award Night Saturday 25 October 2015 at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu

Mainly driven by a passion for visual arts, Sir Robert Oji started to think about an Arts Festival in Enugu in 2006. The next year, the first Life in My City Art Festival (the LIMCAF) was born in the coal city.

This year sees the 9th edition of what has become the most consistent and most expressive art festival in Nigeria. Its aim is to promote artistic creativity and professionalism among young and talented Nigerian artists coming from everywhere in Nigeria.

This constant high performance has been made possible because of people like Elder K.U. Kalu or Kevin Ojiofor who involved thousands of people in their dream and whose passion for visual arts has no boundary. And this passion has driven the whole board, the organising committee, the jury panel as well as all the people involved in this nationwide project. They also had the very strong support of the Alliance française d’ Enugu which has actively participated in the organisation of the Festival from the very first day.

The concept of LIMCAF is so simple and unifying that it has been extended all over the country via the support of the French cultural network formed by the Institut français du Nigeria in Abuja and the ten Alliances françaises spread accross the country. And it wouldn't have been the same without the support of many generous private sponsors as well as the Embassy of France in Nigeria.

LIMCAF has been growing each year. As a proof of the vitality of young Nigerian artists, there are more participants every year and the standard gets higher.

The French Embassy in Nigeria through its office of promotion of higher education, Campus France, is welcoming prospective students and assisting them as they consider studying in France.

Campus France orientate students in identifying suitable programmes, scholarship programmes and in complying with visa regulations and other administrative requirements prior to their arrival in France. We regularly organize pre-departure sessions and CV & cover letter workshops to empower students to get the best learning and human experience during their stay in France. Two pre-departure sessions have taken place in July & August 2015. Prospective students have learned more about first steps and practical information when they arrive in France (residence permit, opening a bank account, housing subsidy, working while studying, etc.). Alumni have attended the event to share their experience about living & studying in France. France is the third destination for international student mobility in the world with about 300.000 foreign students joining French higher education institutions every year. French higher education has evolved over the years to fit in with the evolving higher education world: it now offers more than 1000 degree programs taught in English from Bachelor degree programs to Phd degree Programs. Accounting for more than 20% of its overall budget, education represents the priority of the French government. For more information, please come to the Institut français du Nigeria or contact [email protected]. If you're based in Lagos and the South, please contact [email protected].
