Page 3: Programme & Registration - ForestTECH · 1.00-1.50pm workshop 1: Developments in forest management & wood procurement Software, Andrew Zhu, APAC Sales Manager, Trimble Forestry, Canada

Background:ForestTECH is this region’s premier forestry technology series. It’s run for Australasia’s forest resource managers, planners and inventory foresters by the Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA). Since 2007, it’s the one event every year that continues to draw in foresters to one location in both countries.

What's being covered at ForestTECH 2018?Key themes for this year’s event include;

- Storage, processing and management of “big data”

- The practical application of automation, robotics and sensors by forest managers

- Integrating virtual, augmented and mixed reality into forestry operations

- Results and lessons from reconciling remote sensing data into the field

- New innovations in mobile forest apps and collection tools

- Mobile communications advances in more remote locations

- Results from remote sensing research and in-forest trials

- Workflow solutions for data collected from airborne and UAV systems

- New mapping and GIS applications

Who will be attending ForestTECH 2018? • Forest resource managers • Inventory foresters• Forestry GIS & remote sensing specialists • Forest owners • Forest managers • Forestry researchers • Forestry consultants• Technology & equipment suppliers

Presented by: Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA), a division of Innovatek Ltd.Please note that FIEA reserves the right to change the programme if needed without prior knowledge to event delegates

What happened last year? Well over 250 delegates attended the ForestTECH series in November 2017. All major forestry companies in Australia and New Zealand were represented along with representatives from major Indonesian and South African companies. The focus for ForestTECH 2017 was “unlocking the true value of data”. New systems for better measuring, managing and analysing this information were reviewed. Emphasis was also put on research findings from in-forest trials and a three-year, AU$1.8 million collaborative research project on remote sensing jointly funded by Forest & Wood Products Australia (FWPA), forestry companies, universities and government.

Key features of the annual technology series this year are the number of international tech providers who are involved, the focus on integrating research findings into local forestry operations and the huge strides that have been made with VR, AR and mixed reality and the opportunities for use in forest management and operations.

Pre-Conference Workshops:ForestTECH 2018 conference delegates have the opportunity of registering for a series of pre-conference workshops. The workshops are free to conference delegates and will run on the afternoon before the main conference runs. Workshops this year include: Forest Management & Wood Procurement Software, Mixed-Reality Applications for Forestry and VR Assessments for Forest Inventories. Because of space available, the workshops are limited to a maximum of 35 delegates. Places usually fill fast and will be taken on a “first in – first served” basis. Selection of workshops can be made on registration.

Venue: Bayview Eden Melbourne, 6 Queens Road, Melbourne, Australia
