Goal:

The “Boundless” Academy seeks to enhance the transnational media competence of young jour-nalists from EBU* member nations and the Euro- Mediterranean region through cooperative efforts on a joint, cross-border media project.

Topics:

Cultural Diversity and Dialogue in the Media;Migration and Integration in Europe and the Euro-Mediterranean Region

Framework:

“Boundless” was founded in 2006 by wdr and its partner organisations as a vehicle to advance and promote the capabilities of young televi-sion and multimedia journalists from European Broadcasting Union member states and the Euro-Mediterranean region. In conjunction with the European Union’s “Year of Intercultural Dialogue”, the four-week “Boundless” Media Academy for Cultural Diversity will begin on May 26 in Cologne. The Academy’s 15 participants were selected by an international jury in an EBU-wide competition. “Boundless” was initiated in 2006 at the European Media Conference on Migration and Integration held in the German city of Essen. With this step, wdr, together with zdf and France Télévisions, began an EBU-wide process, with subsequent conferences scheduled for Paris in 2007 and Amsterdam in 2008.

Implementation:

Participants from eight nations are travelling toCologne for the first “Boundless” Academy. Under the overall headings of “Crossing Borders” and “Mobility”, the experiences of all those taking part will be discussed in dialogue sessions and further enhanced to include observations and video material in Cologne. During the first two weeks including seminars and research the com-parison of different journalistic styles and develop-ment of the main topics with international experts will be of primary interest. The young journalists will then travel to other broadcasting corporations in Latvia, Slovenia, France, Tunesia, Jordan and the Netherlands, as well as to zdf in Mainz, to Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle in Bonn or stay at wdr Cologne. Each individual will report on a story that is deemed particularly appropriate in demonstrating changes, opportunities and areas of conflict within the framework of the migration process. The video and pictorial results of these preparatory efforts will be consolidated and, work-ing in teams, participants will create an internation-al cooperative production for presentation at the close of the “Boundless” Academy.

Ziel:

Die „Boundless“ Akademie strebt die Herausbil-dung von transnationalen Medienkompetenzen von jungen Journalistinnen und Journalisten aus dem EBU-* und euro-mediterranen Raum durch das Zusammenwirken an einem gemeinsamen, grenzüberschreitenden Medienprojekt an.

Themenfelder:

Kulturelle Vielfalt und Dialog in den Medien;Migration und Integration in Europa und im euro-mediterranen Raum

Rahmen:

Mit „Boundless“ hat der wdr mit seinen Partnern ein Förderprojekt für junge Fernseh- und Multi-mediajournalistinnen und -journalisten aus den Mitgliedsstaaten der Europäischen Rundfunk-union und dem euro-mediterranen Raum ins Leben gerufen.

Am 26. Mai 2008 startet im „EU-Jahr des inter-kulturellen Dialogs“ die vierwöchige „Boundless“ Medienakademie für kulturelle Vielfalt in Köln. Die 15 Teilnehmer/innen der Akademie wurden durch einen EBU-weiten Wettbewerb von einer internationalen Jury ausgewählt. „Boundless“ wurde 2006 während der Europäischen Medien-konferenz zur Migration und Integration in Essen lanciert. Damit startete der wdr gemeinsam mit dem zdf und France Télévisions einen EBU-weiten Prozess mit Nachfolgekonferenzen in Paris 2007 und Amsterdam 2008.

Umsetzung:

Aus acht Ländern reisen die Teilnehmer/innen zu der ersten „Boundless“ Akademie nach Köln. Unter dem Leitthema „Grenzüberschreitung“ und „Mobilität“ werden erlebte Geschichten im Dialog zusammengeführt und Beobachtungen und Bilder von Köln aus weiter gedreht. In den ersten beiden Seminar- und Recherchewochen steht der Vergleich der unterschiedlichen journalistischen Heran-gehensweisen und die Vertiefung des Leitthemas mit internationalen Expertinnen und Experten im Mittelpunkt. Danach reisen die jungen Journalistin-nen und Journalisten weiter zu ihren Hospitanz-stationen nach Lettland, Slowenien, Jordanien, Tunesien, Frankreich, in die Niederlande, zum zdf nach Mainz, zur Deutschen Welle nach Bonn oder bleiben beim wdr Köln. Jeder berichtet über eine Geschichte, die auf besondere Weise geeignet ist, Veränderungen, Chancen und Konfliktfelder im Rahmen von Migrationsprozessen aufzugreifen. In einer Gemeinschaftsproduktion werden die Arbeits-ergebnisse und Bilder zusammengeführt, in Teams neu zusammengesetzt und als internationale Ge-meinschaftsproduktionen am Ende der „Boundless“ Akademie präsentiert.
