DESCRIPTION

French Institute of Abuja quarterly brochure. This brochure comprises all our activities for the next three months (December 2014 to February 2015), whether it be French classes or our cultural events. The French Institute is the centre ‘‘par excellence’’ to learn French in the federal capital. Our offer is varied and tailored to different interests: classes for adults, children and teenagers, French for Personal Assistants, French for Business, private classes (including at home) ...and so on. For those that wish it, all classes can culminate in an examination for an internationally recognized diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education. As the major cultural centre in Abuja, the French Institute organises around a hundred events throughout the year, including weekly films, theatre, concerts and visual arts. All are accessible for English speakers. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Patrick PEREZ, Directeur

Dear friends,Highlights marked and will continue to do so in the second semester of this year! On the cultural front, CAB music band and the CAKTUS circus Company were warmly welcomed at the Transcorp Hilton and the festival of animated cinema keeps on growing year after year.On the French language front, the first session of “French for Business” course was launched with a good number of participants. The month of December will offer you a new chance to take part into the ”World Music Day/Fête de la musique” (cancelled in June due to heavy rains) and to celebrate Human Rights' Day.Finally, enrolments for piano and dance workshops are still on and we have two new workshops to meet your expectations: choir singing and drama class. Our cultural cooperation is the result of a beautiful friendship between our two countries. Our special relationship got stronger in different areas throughout the year 2014 and proves, if need be, that diversity is the best guaranty of a world seeking mutual understanding, creation and dialogue beyond all differences. On behalf of the Institut Français team, allow me to wish you all the best for the New Year to come. May 2015 bring along the fulfilment of your expectations, the accomplishment of your dearest projects. To conclude, we would like to give our very heartfelt thanks to the partners of the Institut Français du Nigéria whose logos appear at the end of the programme. Without them, many projects could not have been carried out successfully.Patrick Perez, Director

The Lion and the Jewel.

THE LION AND THE JEWELIt chronicles how Baroka, the lion, fights with the modern Lakunle over the right to marry Sidi, the titular Jewel. Lakunle is portrayed as the civilized antithesis of Baroka and unilaterally attempts to modernize his community and change its social conventions for no reason other than the fact that he can.

Josiane, a fifteen years old girl, lives with her parents. One day, her parents are away and she decides to take a walk downtown. Josiane then discovers another world and soon finds herself in the arms of a young man whom she falls madly in love. It is at this point that she become a ‘rebel girl’ and that her life is turned upside down.

The main goal of Campus France's office is to welcome prospective students and assist them as they consider studying in France. France counts among leading foreign educational destination. The excellence of its research, the reputation of its companies and the quality of life makes France an attractive place to study. French schools and universities offer more than 900 programs designed for English speaking students.

One of the main event is the French Education Fair organized yearly by the French Embassy in Nigeria, this event is a unique occasion for prospective Nigerian students to meet representatives of French schools and universities.
