Ring in the New Year with Light Weigh!

The Light Weigh Bible Study programs are designed to help members overcome any struggles they may have with weight issues and overeating. Each Light Weigh session features Video Presentations that highlight a Saint of the Week, a Light Weigh Eating Example, and other great Catholic/Scriptural lessons that are tied to the struggle of overeating and how to overcome it. Come see what Light Weigh is about at a no-obligation Orientation session on Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Room 115 in the Parish Center at 6:30 pm.

Two separate Bible Study sessions are scheduled to begin in January, 2018. Cost is $148.00 for 12 class sessions, a spiritual growth kit that includes a journal, audio CD's, and more. Registration with payment is due December 15, 2017. Call Martha at 575/640-9076 for more information.

His Excellency, Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, and a former participant in a Light Weigh One King Bible Study, has this to say about it: "I do recommend the program. Light Weigh is a great resource to become better stewards of our bodies. With Light Weigh there are no "weigh-ins", but it is meant to be done as a group. By participating in weekly meetings, participants both challenge and support each other in their efforts to give God dominion over their eating choices."

Several months ago, at the time of the canonization of Mother Theresa, our parish council expressed a desire to change the name of our ministry to the needy – The St. Vincent de Paul ministry – to the St. Mother Theresa ministry. We had to wait until the 2018 collection envelopes were printed with the name change. Therefore, this parish ministry to help the needy with utility bills and prescription medicine will now be called the St. Mother Theresa ministry.

Every Wednesday morning we will give assistance to the first 15 people who come to the office seeking help. We keep a data base and we will give this assistance to a person once during a 12 month period.

A little over a year ago we also formed a small prayer team that offers to pray with the people seeking help. It is voluntary, but usually four or five individuals will accept the offer to pray with them. They may pray for themselves, their families or for whatever they have in mind. This prayer ministry has been very spiritually faithful. If you would like to help with the St. Mother Theresa ministry, please contact Mary Ann Tuten at 575-524-8563.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Patroness of the Americas and the Philippines

Feast day is December 12

In 1531 Juan Diego was going to Mass when our Lady

stopped him on his way down Tepeyac Hill in Mexico.

Mary asked him to go to the bishop and request a

church to be built at that location. How could he a poor

peasant approach the bishop? After much anxiety Juan

went to the bishop to relay Mary’s request, but the

bishop wanted proof of the vision.

On December 12, Juan was hurrying to get a priest for

his uncle, who was dying. Our Lady appeared to Juan

again. She told him that his uncle was healed and she

wanted Juan to return to the bishop, but Juan told her

that the bishop had asked for a sign. So Our Lady sent

Juan into a rocky area nearby to gather the roses that

surprisingly were growing there during the winter.

Juan picked all the roses and he carried them carefully

in his tilma, or cloak. In the bishop’s presence, he let

down his tilma and the beautiful roses fell to the floor.

The bishop was stunned, not by the roses, but by the

beautiful image of Mary that was on his tilma. The

bishop had received his sign, and he built a church

dedicated to Mary as requested. The tilma with the

image is displayed in the basilica of Our Lady of

Guadalupe in Mexico City and amazingly after almost

500 years it has not deteriorated.

The diocese provides services that are essential to our local Catholic Church. The diocese promotes vocations, educates seminarians, provides retirement for priests, and provides the marriage tribunal services. It’s important that we help support these services through our contributions. If you need an U.I.M. envelope, you may find them in the wall rack near the church bathrooms.
