Our parish is participating in Living the Eucharist this upcoming Lenten season. It begins the week of February 11, 2018. Ash Wednesday is February 14, 2018. This spiritual renewal program provides us with opportunities to grow in our faith through learning more about the Eucharist, participating more fully in Sunday Mass, and living the Eucharist each day as disciples of Christ. Sign up Sundays will be held at Masses the weekends of January 6 and 13, 2018. Materials are now available for purchase. Please contact Lisa at (575) 921-1369 or Patricia at (575) 649-6971 for materials or for more information about this program. Please join us. Thank you.

Several months ago, at the time of the canonization of Mother Theresa, our parish council expressed a desire to change the name of our ministry to the needy – The St. Vincent de Paul ministry – to the St. Mother Theresa ministry. We had to wait until the 2018 collection envelopes were printed with the name change. Therefore, this parish ministry to help the needy with utility bills and prescription medicine will now be called the St. Mother Theresa ministry.

Every Wednesday morning we will give assistance to the first 15 people who come to the office seeking help. We keep a data base and we will give this assistance to a person once during a 12 month period.

A little over a year ago we also formed a small prayer team that offers to pray with the people seeking help. It is voluntary, but usually four or five individuals will accept the offer to pray with them. They may pray for themselves, their families or for whatever they have in mind. This prayer ministry has been very spiritually faithful. If you would like to help with the St. Mother Theresa ministry, please contact Mary Ann Tuten at 575-524-8563.

United in Ministry (U.I.M.)

If you still have not pledge and/or contributed to the United in the Ministry Campaign please do so within the next few weeks. We are members of the diocese as well as our parish. The diocese provides services that are essential to our local Catholic Church. The diocese promotes vocations, educates seminarians, provides retirement for priests, and provides the marriage tribunal services. It’s important that we help support these services through our contributions. If you need an U.I.M. envelope, you may find them in the wall rack near the church bathrooms.

Patron Saint of Pregnant Women Feast day is December 20

Dominic of Silos, a Spanish shepherd boy was born at the beginning of the eleventh century, and tended sheep at the bottom of the Pyrenees Mountains. As a young boy he spent many hours in the fields, where he welcomed the solitude and developed his love for prayer. He became a holy monk and was soon appointed abbot of his monastery and brought about many changes for the better. Following a dispute with the king over property, Dominic and his monks were exiled. They established a new monastery in what at first seemed an unpromising location. This monastery was located in a lonely spot and was very run down. Under Dominic’s leadership, however, it became one of the most famous houses in Spain. Many healings were reported there. About 100 years after Dominic’s death, a young woman made a pilgrimage to his tomb. There Dominic of Silos appeared to her and assured her that she would bear another son. The woman was Joan of Aza, (now she is called Blessed Joan of Aza). When that son was born, Joan gratefully named him Dominic. And this son became the great St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order. Today’s saint died on December 20, 1073. For many years thereafter, the staff used by St. Dominic of Silos was brought to the royal palace whenever a queen of Spain was in labor. That practice ended in 1931.
