Here’s a list of the venues and orchards partipating in the 2018 CiderDays event:

Apex Orchards 153 Peckville Road, Shel-burne, 413-625-2744 www.apexorchards.com — Apples, honey, and cider vinegar from the Smith family orchard. Turn right at Peckville Rd, 3.4 miles west of I-91 rotary (exit 26).

Artisan Beverage Cooperative 324 Wells Street, Greenfield, www.artbev.coop — Offering tasting of a variety of Green River Ambrosia meads (honey-wine) made from raw, local honey. Tour the facility, try some mead, seasonal Kombucha and Ginger Libation! Rt 2 to Federal Street (Rt 5/10), South to Silver St (1st light). Right on Silver, 1 mile to left on Wells Street. The Meadery is located in the Venture Center building. Tast-ings from 11 - 4 both Saturday and Sunday ($5 - 7 charge).

Bear Meadow Farm Cidery 926 Watson-Spruce Corner Rd, Ashfield, 413-628-3970 — After 15 years of practice as home cider makers, Rick and Nancy Intres decided to go commercial in 2013. They debuted at CiderDays 2014 and are happy to welcome visitors at this year’s event. Rick is a lifelong molecular/cell biologist and brings a strong science bent to cider making, but he and Nancy are also traditionalists. New England cider still requires good fruit, quality juice, careful fermentation, and aging in oak casks. Bear Meadow proudly offers their mix of science and craft to CiderDays visitors. 11 - 4 Saturday and Sunday

Bear Swamp Orchard 1209 B Hawley Road Ashfield, 413-625-2849, 413-768-7989 www.bearswamporchard.com — Come enjoy the end of the apple season with tastings of their hard ciders made from their organical-ly grown apples, and tour their new cidery building. They will have hard and sweet cider for sale as well as cider doughnuts, and jams and jellies. Stroll through the hilltop orchard for panoramic views of beautiful western Franklin County; say hi to the chickens and Shetland sheep. Check out their water bladder press, and try out their small hand-powered press for yourself. See their website for more.

Cameron’s Winery 105 Main Street, Northfield, 413-225-3247 — open Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm for cider tastings by the glass and by the growler. Live

Music all three days. Restaurant is open with food to pair with the ciders. Cider tastings all weekend. Free mulled warm apple pie wine taste. Nine ciders on tap. Pair with savory delights such as hot stuffed ruben tarts, cider steamed fat brats with the works, Cameron’s beef, kielbasa and black bean chili, warm ap-ple crisp and spiced apple cheese and meat slate. Must be 21 years+.

Clarkdale Fruit Farms 303 Upper Road, West Deerfield, 413-772-6797 www.clarkdalefruit-farms.com — Tom and Ben Clark grow over 50 varieties of apples, including several heirlooms, on their 100-year-old orchard. They also press sweet cider, and will offer apple and cider samples all day long. The farm stand sells apples, cider, pears, and seasonal products. Rt 2A East from I-91 rotary in Greenfield, turn right at first light onto Newton St. Take next left on Fairview, then left on Munson St. Follow for 1 mile to Farm stand entrance. Look for signs.

Deerfield Community Center 16 Memorial Street, Deerfield — Venue for the Sunday tastings. Park in Memorial Hall parking lot on right (says ‘Teachers’ Center’ & ‘Historic Deer-field’). The Deerfield Community Center is just past that lot on the right, at the intersection with Main Street.

Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew 8 Church Street, corner of Church and Federal Streets, Greenfield, 413-773-3925, www.saintsjamesandandrew.org — the church parish hall is the venue for the Friday night Cider Pub Sing and Pop Up Cider Pub.

Green Fields Market 144 Main Street, Greenfield, and McCusker’s Market, 3 State Street, Shelburne Falls, www.franklincommu-nity.coopfranklincommunity.coop — Tasting of local and regional cheeses 1 - 3 Saturday.

Hager’s Farm Market 1232 Mohawk Trail (Rt. 2), Shelburne, 413-625-6323 www.hagers-farmmarket.com — Hager’s Farm Market is teaming up with Bear Country 95.3 to host Pumpkin Smash on Saturday! The kitchen will be serving their own grass-fed burgers and sandwiches, numerous local beer, wine and specialty food vendors will be sampling, and they will be serving homemade fried dough with maple cream. Hager’s Farm Market offers fresh local produce, homemade bread and baked goods as well as their own beef and maple products. Bring the family for apple picking!

New Salem Preserves and Orchards 67 S. Main Street, New Salem 978-544-3437, www.newsalempreserves.com — New Salem Preserves and Orchards hosts its Cider and Apple Festival with child-friendly apple pressing. Farm products, along with exhibits from local artisans, will be displayed within the courtyard of the cider mill. You will also have the ever-present breathtaking view of the Quabbin Reservoir and beyond. FREE Workshops offered:

Ryan and Casey Liquors 55 Main Street, Greenfield, 413-772-6585 www.ryanandcasey-liquors.com Ryan and Casey is home to the most diverse selection of fine wines, cham-pagnes, ciders and domestic, imported, and craft-brewed beers in our area. Peter White and the White family take great pride in Ryan and Casey Liquors, and Manager Kristie Fau-faw is one of the most experienced, educated professionals in our industry. On Saturday from 12 - 3, Ryan and Casey will be offering a tasting of a wide variety of commercial ciders and calvados.

Shelburne-Buckland Community Center 53 Main Street, Shelburne Falls. Venue for CiderDays Sunday workshops. From I-91 (exit 26), take Rt. 2 West to South Maple Street. Turn left onto Bridge Street and take a right onto Main Street. The Community Center is in a former church on the right side of the street; look for signs.

Unity Park 56 First Street, Turners Falls — venue for the Saturday Cider Salons (under the big tent).

West County Cider 208 Peckville Road, Shel-burne www.westcountycider.com — Judith and Field Maloney offer a wide range hard ciders made from traditional American and European cider varieties grown at the Catamount Hill Or-chard, as well as apples from local orchards. From 1-91, take Exit 26, Rt. 2 west for 3.4 miles. Turn right at Peckville Rd, pass Apex and continue on up the hill. 10 - 5 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Wheel-View Farm 212 Reynolds Road, Shelburne, 413-625-2900, www.wheelview-farm.com — Farm Store/Farm Museum/Tasting Room open both days with free hard cider tastings. They will also have their own fresh raw cider, apples, and cider syrups, plus grass-fed beef, maple syrup and maple cream and other goodies. People can relax on the patio and enjoy the gorgeous view with a glass of hard or fresh cider or a maple spritzer for the young folks or those who don’t want alcohol. Open 10-5 each day.

A my Traverso is the senior food editor at Yankee

magazine and co-host of the national public television series Weekends with Yankee. She is also the author of The Apple Lover’s Cookbook, which was a finalist for the Julia Child Award for best first-time author and won an IACP Cookbook Award in the “American” category. Amy has shared her apple expertise at CiderDays for many years, in demos ranging from mastering the pie crust to making apple butter and tasting heirlooms.

This year, she will be sharing some of her favorite apple cooking hacks at Clarkdale Fruit Farms in Deerfield.

Previously, Amy was food editor at Boston magazine and an associate food editor at Sunset magazine. She makes regular television appearances on shows such as Hallmark Home & Family, The Martha Stewart Show (where she cooked apple dumplings and apple butter), Throwdown with Bobby Flay, and Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

Yankee is the iconic American magazine covering the finest that New England has to offer. Founded in 1935, Yankee covers classic New England travel destinations, food traditions, and home and lifestyle stories with stunning photography and artwork. The United States Association of Cider Makers (USACM) is a

national organization of cider and perry producers in the United States, whose mission is to grow a diverse and successful U.S. cider industry by providing valuable information, resources and services to their members and by advocating on their behalf.

In 2016, the USACM established its flagship pro-gram, the first ever cider accreditation program is designed for dis-tributors, servers and others who are interested in becoming bonafide experts on all things cider. Since then, the Association has credentialed over 1,000 people as Certified Cider Professionals (CCP).

Level 1 of the CCP is an online 60-question multiple choice exam that tests your knowledge of the cider category. This exam is best for those in the service, retail, or wholesale industries as well as for cider sales representatives. The test has six subject categories:

1. Apples & The Orchard 2. Cider Making 3. Cider Styles 4. Flavor & Evaluation 5. Keeping & Serving 6. Cider & Food

We offer CCP exam prep workshops all over the U.S. Participating in a workshop, reviewing the required apples and pears outlined in our study guide, memorizing the USACM cider style guide, and practicing cider food pairing principles will best prepare students to pass the exam. Workshops generally cost $25 but are free to USACM members. Exam fees are $75 for non-members and $60 for members.

The level 2 CCP exam will be piloted at CiderCon 2019 in Chicago next February. For more information, visit www.ciderassociation.org/certification.
