Skills Share Gathering October 23-24 2015 Check out this upcoming event being held at Redwood Acres! October 2324 will be a full weekend focused on Emergency preparedness, self-reliance, and practical homesteading know how. Community members are invited to participate and share their unique skills. 4H has been invited to participate in this event and we are open to ideas about how to use this event to educate people about the 4H Youth Development Program. After all we are a youth driven skill sharing organization. 4H will host an informational booth and we are looking for volunteers to represent the 4H program in two hour shifts. This is an excellent opportunity to promote your club, recruit new members and build relationships in the community. Meet with local experts who have skills that could benefit your project or future activity. Other ideas for members or clubs to participate include; 1. Give a demonstration 2. Help your project leader lead a workshop 3. Have a fundraiser; Petting zoo, sell crafts, make and sell solar ovens, host a kids craft table for tips 4. Promote a future fundraiser 5. Promote your project to new potential auction buyers 6. Anything you can think of this is going to be an exciting, fun filled weekend and as a volunteer your registration fee waived. Contact Wesley Hodges [email protected] (707) 834-1870 if you or your club would like to participate. Northcoast Skill Share is also looking for volunteers to help run the event. This is a great opportunity to earn Community Service and experience facilitating large events. Contact Larry Goldberg through the link below. 4-H has been skill sharing for over a century. Let’s show them how it’s done! More Information Here

News from Freshwater 4-H On August 9th some of our members gathered near 3 Corners Market to participate in the first annual Humboldt Bay Marathon. We had a hydration station where we passed out water, Heed (sports drink), bananas and pretzels to the 100+ running by! Our new board members met for a retreat on August 17th. We made a general plan for activities, created a budget and established individual responsibilities. We then enjoyed a hot dog lunch. The first meeting of the year will be September 14th at 7:00 p.m.. We will be meeting the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Freshwater School cafeteria for anyone who would like to attend. Jenna Sadler Reporter Ferndale Club Update Hey Everyone! Ferndale 4-Hers have had a busy summer preparing for the Humboldt County Fair. The Fair was a huge success this year, our members won lots of awards. Many memories and new friends were made at the fair. Thank you to the project leaders and parents that made this year's fair a successful one for our members. Ferndale 4-H would also like to thank the generous buyers at the Jr. Live Stock Auction! Your generosity is greatly appreciated! We can't wait to get the new 4-H year started. Officers, don't forget our first Officer Meeting will be on Wednesday, September 9th at City Hall in Ferndale. 4-H sign-ups will be on Thursday 17th at the Community Center. Don't forget that your parents must attend this meeting to fill out important papers. Another important date for your calendar if you are a leader or sign up to be a jr/teen leader is October 6th. Congratulations to the Ferndale 4-H Sheep Group on their 'Judges Choice Award' at the Fortuna Rodeo Parade in July! The kids and their parents worked hard to create a float that demonstrate a love of service and honor local law enforcement. Their slogan was 'Ferndale 4-H Give You S'more!'. In addition to participating in the amazing service projects facilitated by the Community Pride project group, the sheep group has demonstrated their love of service and community by making and donating tie-blankets to Ronald McDonald House, making lamb bookmarks and donating picture books to two kindergarten classes, making shamrock pins for Meals on

Wheels recipients, participating in 'Coats for Cold', making cards for soldiers, and decorating holiday place mats for Meals on Wheels recipients. Until next time, Malela Fulton Pygmy Goat Education Day October 25, 2015 1pm-4pm To be located in the dairy cattle judging pavilion. Event will run rain or shine.
