Purpose:Young Life Park City’s mission focus is that every adolescent will have the opportunity to meet Jesus Christ and follow Him. We do this by living in the community and being the best example of Christ possible to high school and middle school students. We currently have active Young Life, Wydlife, and Capernaum ministries.

The purpose of our year round intern program is to join with us in accomplishing this mission focus. We are seeking people who desire to: Grow in your personal relationship with Christ. Gain a solid understanding of Young Life and Young Life field staff. Experience real-life elements of work as a Young Life field staff. Contribute to your surrounding community.

Qualifications:This program is for men and women who believe in the mission of Young Life and are seeking the Lord’s calling in their lives. Our focus will be on developing life-long participants in the mission of Young Life with specific emphasis on full-time field staff. The following qualifications are necessary in order to participate in this program:

1) Must be a believer in Jesus Christ, seeking growth in your spiritual life, and currently seeking maturity in your faith. We are looking for people who are teachable and have displayed qualities of faithfulness in their lives.

2) Must be at least 20 years of age. College graduates and career people are welcome and encouraged to apply.

3) The nature of field staff work is physically demanding at times. You will be required to work willingly, cheerfully, and to the best of your ability at whatever job assigned. You must be at work each scheduled day unless legitimately sick, be on time, and submit to the authority and regulations of departmental supervisors.

4) Candidates must be willing to make the following program and lifestyle commitments:

Commitments:1) To stay for the entire length of the program (11 months) unless exceptions are made prior to your arrival.

2) To attend, be on time to, and actively participate in all scheduled intern activities including Bible study, fellowship, discussion groups, worship, and meetings with your mentor. We will assist in facilitating these times, but the success of these times will depend on your willingness to engage and take ownership of both your individual and community intern experience.

3) Throughout your year, you will be a representative of Park City, Young Life, and Christ to students and the local community. We ask that you commit to being above reproach in all you do to represent the seriousness of this call.

4) Fundraising: Interns will be responsible for raising $12,000 for the year. This money will be used to help fund internship program costs.

Young Life Park City Commitments:1) The area staff hopes to make your year both rewarding and challenging. There will be much asked and much

given as we serve Christ together through our work in the community.

2) We will plan and facilitate a fellowship time, which is intended to encourage your personal growth with Christ. There will be Bible study, worship, prayer, scripture memorization, a mentor relationship, and small and large group sharing.

3

3) The area staff will train and equip you to carry out the various responsibilities of many different jobs required by field staff. Our commitment will include teaching the values behind each task that we do, so that you can gain a comprehensive overview of the mission and purpose of Young Life field staff.

Program Focus:Christ1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I am determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” John 12:26 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

The most important aspect of your internship will be how your faith will be challenged, stretched, and strengthened as you draw closer to Christ daily. It is recognized that every individual is at a different place in his or her journey and that cultivating a relationship with God rests largely with the individual, not with the program. This program will focus on providing interns with the tools for fostering this relationship with Christ primarily through learning to practice the disciplines that Jesus modeled. Interns will have regular commitments that include study, worship, prayer, fellowship, and mentoring

Active engagement and participation will be necessary to make these times fruitful. We also require each intern to be involved in a local church.

WorkColossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”

Field staff is a challenging and rewarding job that requires an individual to wear many hats and jump between a variety of tasks throughout the day and year. There will be many days and weeks where flexibility and adaptability are crucial as we prepare clubs, trips, banquets, committee meets, etc. This is more than a job; it is a commitment to a lifestyle of work, service and humility.

CommunityRomans 15:5-6 “may the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Colossians 3:13-14 “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Park City interns will live in community on multiple levels. You will be housed with a Christian family within the community that shares the vision of Young Life Park City. This is a great responsibility and requires interns to be respectful of host families by being clean within the space provided, help around the house as needed, and be respectful of other household rules.

Interns will be part of a bigger area and regional community composed of staff, volunteers, and donors. Together we are continually learning how to serve Christ better and how to love our neighbors as ourselves. Much of your personal growth this year will be dependent on your participation in community growth. A community such as this comes with both immense blessings and also daily challenges.

CareerMatthew 9:37-38 “Then he said to his disciples, “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

The Lord is looking for people who will be lights in the world, both in ministry and secular positions. We will spend time with each intern looking at their specific gifts and talents and helping them discover how and where they fit into the Great Commission. Help will also be available for interns to explore possible careers within and outside of Young Life.

Program Specifics:Salary and Benefits

Interns are salaried and will be paid approximately $1,300 per month. You will also receive 5 vacation days, 11 paid holidays for the year, and an EPIC local pass valid at Park City ski resort. Vacation days may be used at your discretion with approval from your supervisor. Vacation should be scheduled around camp trips, regional staff times, and area events (banquet, club, etc) as much as possible. We recommend scheduling longer vacations during summer months when school is not in session. We currently do not have the resources and ability to provide health coverage for the program.

Housing and Meals Housing is provided for all interns. Each room will be have a bed and basic furniture. Bathroom, kitchen,

laundry, etc will be shared with the host family. We do not suggest bringing any extra furniture, etc. until you arrive and assess your needs. The accommodations are certainly adequate but space will be limited.

Meals will be your own responsibility to purchase and prepare. We currently do not have the ability to accommodate pets. Park City is a small resort town with the amenities found in a big city. You will be close to grocery stores,

department stores, and restaurants. Park City is equipped with a free bus system and miles of paved bike paths and lanes throughout the whole city. You can utilize these forms of transportation but we also recommend having a car.

Fundraising Interns will have the privilege of raising $12,000 for the year, which will cover part of their salary and operating

expenses. The reasons for the fundraising requirement are two-fold: 1) ALL Young Life staff raise money and this is an opportunity to practice this skill common to ministry work. 2) The money helps make this program possible. Young Life Park City will provide support materials and strategies to help in the fundraising process.

All interns are required to raise half of their support by the agreed upon start date.

Job Specifications School Season: During the school season, interns will be involved in running and planning for Young Life,

Wyldlife, & Capernaum ministries. This involves running club and campaigners as well as doing contact work on a regular basis. They will also attend fall trips for Young Life & Wyldlife. As part of a regional staff team interns will serve on weekend assignments for family camp and fall weekend camps. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to helping run our banquet, summer camp preparation, year-end giving letters, committee meetings, regional staff times, and camp fundraising. During the school year workdays and hours will vary but interns should expect to have 2 days off a week.

Summer Season: Interns will be actively involved in running campaigners and focusing heavily on contact work with the goal of getting more students to camp. Interns will also be required to attend camp trips for Young Life, Wyldlife, & Capernaum. Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, helping plan for and run our golf tournament, planning for next school year, summer newsletters, committee meetings, regional staff times, and camp fundraising. This is also a great time to take vacation and explore Utah.

Application Process:Each applicant will need to complete an Internship Application and have two recommendations filled out on their behalf. One recommendation is to be filled out by a Young Life staff (or volunteer) and the other by a pastor or other adult who you would consider a spiritual leader in your life. You will also need to submit a resume.
