Introduction

Hi, Minnesota teachers! I’m Becky, your enVision A|G|A tour guide.

Today, I’ll help you explore your new curriculum, figure out what you have, and identify a few resources to focus on as you get started.

So grab your box of materials, and let’s unpack it together!

Let’s walk through the enVision A|G|A materials so that you know what you have.

Later, we’ll look at how to use a few of the key resources as you get started.

How Do I Use It?

I know your time is precious, so let’s focus on how to use the key components as you get started planning and teaching with enVision A|G|A.

Grab your Teacher’s Edition Program Overview (remember that’s TEPO for short), Teacher’s Edition, and Student Edition, and let’s look at the structure of each of them.

Then, we’ll check out some great starting places on Pearson Realize.



Teacher’s Edition Program Overview

The TEPO is the best place to start as you explore enVision A|G|A.

Review the Content section, which has important information about scope and sequence.

Then, take a look at the Pacing Guide. Notice each topic contains a Mathematical Modeling in 3 Acts task as well as content-focused lessons with pacing for traditional and block schedules.

Also, take some time to read through the User’s Guide in the TEPO, especially the Using a Lesson section that explains the lesson structure.



Teacher’s Edition

The Teacher’s Edition has planning and instructional support at the topic and lesson level. Let’s look at the structure of a topic.

Each topic begins with Math Background pages explaining the focus, coherence, rigor, and math practices and processes that are central to the key mathematical ideas of the topic.

Then, check out the Topic Planner, which will help you plan at the topic level.

There’s also information about the diagnostic Topic Readiness Assessment.

Check out the Topic Opener and the enVisionSTEM™ Project so that you can introduce the topic and project to your students.

Finally, the Lesson Overviews have all of the key information to plan your daily lessons.

Let’s look at the four-step lesson structure next using the Student Edition.



Student Edition

Let’s look at each part of the four-step lesson structure.

Step 1:

Each lesson starts with a Critique & Explain, Explore & Reason, or Model & Discuss problem-based learning task. By leading students through this problem, you’ll introduce new concepts with a problem-solving experience that activates students’ prior knowledge.



Step 2

Next, Step 2 consists of a series of examples and corresponding problems for students to try on their own. By examining and discussing multiple representations, students build deep conceptual understanding. The Concept Summary brings it all together. Finally, gather formative assessment data using the Do You Understand? and Do You Know How?



Step 3

Then, in Step 3: Practice & Problem Solving, students work on independent practice problems that focus on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, application, and assessment practice.



Step 4

Finally in Step 4, Assess & Differentiate, you can administer the Lesson Quiz and provide targeted differentiation based on the results. You can find these resources on Pearson Realize and on the Step 4 page of the Teacher’s Edition for each lesson.



Pearson Realize

There’s a ton of great digital resources on Pearson Realize, including digital versions of all of the components and lesson parts we explored earlier.

For now, let’s focus on finding your eTexts and searching for resources by Minnesota standard.

To find eTexts of both the Teacher’s and Student Edition, start on the Table of Contents. Then, click eText. To open an eText, click its title. To use your Teacher’s Edition offline, download the Pearson eText for Schools app. Your students can access the Realize Reader offline by downloading the Realize Reader app.

Next, search for resources by Minnesota standard. On the Table of Contents, click Standards.

Click the arrow next to a strand. Continue expanding the standards. Then, click the name of the standard to search. Explore the list of corresponding resources!

Start small, get comfortable with the program, and then try exploring the print and digital versions of other program resources.
