Greetings, Flutists! We are delighted to welcome you to The Consummate Flutist: Achieving Your Personal Best

in College Auditions 2016 at Carnegie Mellon University!

Our faculty is dedicated to bringing you innovative and inspirational ideas that will help

you to become more effective as flutists and musicians. It is important to remember

that a masterclass is a unique and special environment for learning. Each of you should

feel free to learn as much as you can without pressure or stress. Your time at this class

is all about learning. By the end of our class, you should all be inspired with many new

ideas and concepts which will enable you to become better flutists long after you return

home.

Joining us this week is Lorna McGhee, principal flutist in the Pittsburgh Symphony, a

beautiful teacher, flutist and colleague. We also welcome back Soo-Kyung Park, who

has guided many generations of flutists with her great teaching, playing, and enlightened

personal approach to her students.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Executive Director, Julie

McGough. Julie's tremendous creative spirt and organizational skills have played a vital

role in bringing this class to fruition - our deepest gratitude, Julie! Julie is an alumnus

of Carnegie Mellon University and a beautiful flutist, as well.

We are so fortunate to have the inspiration and unwavering support of Denis Colwell,

Head of the School of Music, and Dan Martin, Dean of the College of Fine Arts. We

also extend our thanks to the outstanding staff members of our music school who have

assisted us all these past months: Ross Garin, Assistant Head; Colby Carson, Director

of Admissions and Recruitment; Dana Casto, Director of Marketing and

Communications; and Robert Skavronski, Director of Operations.

We look forward to meeting each of you over the next few days. Please, feel free to
