Count Us In FestivalProgram Highlights

There are over 40 events and activities for the community as part of the 2021 Count Us In Festival. From community, carers, sporting clubs and business, there is so much to discover. Join in the conversation or get creative. This Count Us In festival is for you. For full program details visit newcastle.nsw.gov.au/count-us-in

CDAH received grant funding to undertake a community mural at 194 Maitland Road, Islington. ‘The mural symbolises our experiences as people with a disability in our community promoting inclusion’. The mural will be painted on March 13 and 14 and CDAH are inviting PWD to come on 13th March and have a go spray painting. Other members of the community are invited to a launch on 14th March and ask questions about its meaning and inclusion.

Latino sounds such as Reggaeton and Salsa have taken the world by storm. Dance-On Newy provides enthusiastic high-energy dance instructors from Latin America to deliver an inclusive and supportive setting for all abilities to enjoy and socialise safely as a community group. This series of Latin dance workshops are catered towards clients with disabilities from 18 years and over. We can deliver partner-based, group, and individual instruction while following CovidSafe requirements.

Knowledge is Power: Discrimination in the Workplace Count Us In sponsored event Delivered by: Hunter Community Legal Centre

• Learn to identify signs of discrimination in a workplace and how to take early and appropriate action.

• Be informed of the process of obtaining assistance from the Hunter Community Legal Centre and other key services including the legal procedure for addressing your issues. • Speak one on one with our intake officer and get a better understanding of how to address your particular needs and concerns.

Immerse Yourself in a creative experience showcasing wellness alternatives for our community. Hands-on demonstrations for people of all abilities including pyrography (wood burning), glass fusing, alcohol inks, Hebel carving, pottery wheel, drawing and watercolours. Meet our teachers, students, and support workers enjoying displays of their creative journey pieces all the while enjoying our sumptuous catering and talented soloist. We believe life is too short to neglect your creativity

Busy Beans - A quality barista service giving people with disability the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and find meaningful employment as baristas. Grab a free coffee or tea from the highly trained Baristas at various Count Us In events. Start Up Get Active – Zumba with Sarah, Inclusive Sports with Fitzy and Table Top Games with Johnathon. Hunter Wetlands, Count Us In Inclusion Day – Come and try the new inclusive fishing platform at Hunter Wetlands.

This introductory session to Goalball (often referred to as the toughest sport you’ve never heard of), provides education of low vision and blindness through simulated, everyday functional activities, team-building exercises, and games. It can be played by anyone regardless if they are sighted or vision impaired, with ALL players COMPLETELY blindfolded when playing!
