Dear Teachers and Staff:

On behalf of North Jersey Arts and Science Charter Schools, we are happy to welcome you to the new 2013-2014 academic school year. We are excited to announce the launch a new program North Jersey Arts and Science Charter Schools: Technology Institute Series #1. The purpose of this series to provide the best available assistance to use the most advanced technology in our classrooms. We want to offer our educators the complete technology solution from SMARTBoard Training to iPads in the Classroom. We will continue as the school year progresses. Our Technology Series will offer a wide range of Professional Development programs that are designed to help our educators make the most of the technology we have provided to you and our students.

On August 27th, will mark the start of our Technology Series, please see the attached schedule. Please carefully read the schedule and determine where your Technology Training location will be.

The Overall Learning Objective of our Technology Series is to:

Develop the skills needed to enhance lessons using a SMARTBoard, Clickers, Document Camera, iPads and much more. As a result, you will be able to:

1. Use new technology, which makes both teaching and learning more dynamic, efficient, motivating, exciting, and fun.

2. Use critical thinking skills to determine the ways that technology can support the needs of all your students, including those students with special learning needs.

3. Identify, evaluate, and practice different methods of using the various forms of technology for multiple learning purposes.

4. Create subject-centered lesson plans that meet specific subject matter standards and/or frameworks.

5. Reflect on the effectiveness of using the technology and how it can be used for future lessons.

Please note at the end of each session, you will receive a certificate of completion for your participation in the Professional Development Hours.

Instructional Technology Series:

Session 1: Basic TechnologyThis course covers the basic operations and interactions with software. Topics include:

• School Database

• Microsoft Word

• Microsoft Excel

• Web Tools

• Google App Tools (Google Mail, Google Drive, Google Calendar)

Session 2: SMARTBoardThis course will take you step-by-step through SMART Notebook software and using an interactive SMART Board. You will leave with a basic understanding of SMART software and experience with using a SMART Board. This class is interactive and practice time on SMART Notebook software is integrated into the class.

Session 3: SMARTBoard Accessories (SMART Clickers/ SMART Document Cameras)This course covers the basics of how to get started using formative assessment with SMART clickers. This course is designed to help you with clicker operation best practices and how to create different types and levels of questions. This session will guide you through importing class lists from Campus, creating questions and time saving tips that will help



make clickers an everyday tool in your classroom. This course will also provide you with tips and best practices on formative assessment. Document cameras create new possibilities for presenting curriculum whether you are a teacher, principal, curriculum specialist or librarian. This course, will enhance your lessons with Document Cameras will provide dynamic ways to present lessons for the classroom.

Session 4: iPad in ClassroomExplore how the iPad can enliven and expend possibilities on the classroom. You will learn how the iPad is being used by teachers and students, play with a handful of apps, and explore how it integrates with other educational technology such as SMARTBoard, and Web Tools.
