PROGETTO EDUCHANGE 2020

Hi! My name’s Yasmim, I’m Brazilian and I was an AIESEC volunteer at the F. Albert institute in

Lanzo during the months of January and February 2020.

AIESEC’s goals are to unify all the countries, decrease inequality and increase education

everywhere. Being part of a project like this was really special to me, and I fell in love with

Italy.

At the school, I got to work with students from different courses (human science, linguistics,

catering...) always helping with the English classes. Sometimes, I talked about my country and

the differences between Brazil and Italy. Other times, I helped teachers with language

teaching, which was very nice because I study languages in my university and I’ll become a

teacher when I graduate.

The biggest difference I noticed in the school environment was the school period. In Brazil, the

classes start together with the begging of the year (after summer vacations in December and

January), and they finish at the end of the year. We have a small winter break in July. Here,

winter break was during Christmas, and students will finish their school year at the middle of

the calendar year.

Other difference that I notice is that in Brazil you don’t have to choose a specialization at

school. Most schools are neutral and the same for everyone, and students only choose a

specific area when they go to university.

It was very interesting to compare the two different systems, and all the time I tried not to

think at one as better than the other, but to analyze what I could learn from the advantages

and disadvantages of each system.

The students and teachers were very receptive and I felt truly welcomed by everyone!

As for my experience in Torino, it was also amazing. I was assigned to two wonderful families

that took me in as one of their own. They aren’t my blood families, but now they are my

families from the heart, and I definitely want to come back and visit them again, and also

receive them in Brazil whenever they want to go!

I met a lot of people, beautiful and historical cities, and tasted some of the most delicious

dishes in my life!

I can say that this experience has changed me! I became more responsible and independent

after moving to a different country. I also got to practice my Italian a lot!

I will never forget the teachers, students, families and friends that I had here! I hope that I can

come back for a visit soon, and that the AIESEC projects continue at the school, as they are a

valuable experience for everyone involved!

ED ECCO COSA CI HA RACCONTATO LA PRIMA FAMIGLIA CHE HA OSPITATO YASMIM

Buongiorno professoressa Masi,

siamo tornati alla normalità soltanto dopo che Yasmim e Lucas sono ritornati in Brasile perché,

anche nelle settimane successive all’ ospitalità, abbiamo più volte accolto i due ragazzi dato

che li sentivamo parte integrante della nostra famiglia.

E’ stata una bellissima esperienza! Non soltanto perché ci ha dato l’opportunità di parlare e

migliorare il nostro inglese, ma anche perché abbiamo potuto conoscere le abitudini di un’altra

cultura. Abbiamo cucinato insieme piatti italiani, insegnando a Yasmim alcune ricette, e piatti

brasiliani per i quali Yasmim ci ha svelato alcuni trucchi. E’ stato divertente fare la spesa

insieme per trovare gli ingredienti giusti!

Siamo stati insieme in montagna ed è stato bellissimo leggere nei loro occhi l’emozione di

vedere un ambiente completamente diverso da quello in cui normalmente vivono: calpestare

la neve, toccarla ha dato a loro, e di riflesso a noi, una splendida sensazione.

Yasmim è sempre stata molto attiva in casa aiutandoci ad apparecchiare, sparecchiare,… e

anche propositiva nel collaborare con noi. Ad esempio ha ascoltato più volte le lezioni in

italiano di Valentina mostrandosi molto interessata anche se non capiva perfettamente quello

che stesse dicendo.

Abbiamo seguito il loro ritorno a casa e ci siamo già scambiati foto della nostra quotidianità.

Rimarremo sicuramente in contatto! Anzi … Yasmim ci ha proposto di andarla a trovare nelle

prossime vacanze invernali (quando in Brasile farà caldo) e noi stiamo prendendo in

considerazione.

LE RIFLESSIONI DELLA SECONDA FAMIGLIA CHE HA OSPITATO YASMIM

La proposta di mia figlia Miriam giunse come un fulmine a ciel sereno, ma la positività di mia

moglie Ornela fugò da subito dubbi e perplessità: perché non farlo? Così la nostra famiglia

accettò di affrontare quest’esperienza completamente nuova, ospitando questa ragazza

ventiduenne di cui non sapevamo nulla e che proveniva dall’altra parte dell’Oceano Atlantico.

In famiglia siamo abituati a confrontarci ed a rispettare le diversità, di qualunque natura,

perché stiamo cercando di trasmettere alla nostre due figlie il concetto per cui, secondo noi, le

differenze arricchiscono e fanno crescere. Certo però che ospitare una sconosciuta in casa per

tre settimane è stata un’esperienza del tutto nuova: un’esperienza bellissima, da consigliare e

da rifare. Non è stato un periodo facile per la nostra famiglia per il sopraggiungere di problemi

di altra natura, ma tutti insieme siamo riusciti a rendere queste tre settimane positive e

costruttive per tutti e cinque: io, Ivan, mia moglie Ornela e le nostre tre figlie Greta, Miriam e

Yasmim… Già, perché alla fine di quest’avventura anche Yasmim è diventata una nostra figlia:

una persona con cui speriamo di rivederci e di mantenere i contatti! Ovviamente le cose non

sono andate come le avevamo immaginate (d’altronde la vita è spesso così…), ma è stata

un’esperienza indimenticabile e costruttiva per tutti quanti. Conoscere persone nuove di posti

diversi permette di aprire la mente, gli orizzonti, mettersi in gioco (a qualsiasi età), abbattere

stupidi stereotipi. Ed in un momento in cui, a livello globale, tirano venti che credevamo

scomparsi, solo lo stare insieme, il conoscersi, l’accettarsi reciproco rispettando le differenze e

le peculiarità di ognuno, può aiutare a calmare le acque. Grazie Yasmim, e grazie Lucas, per

averci dato l’opportunità di conoscervi: tre settimane sono volate, ma speriamo siano state la

base per un rapporto d’amicizia duraturo.

Ciao ragazzi!

I'm Lucas, 24, and last year I decided to leave Brazil for a while and do some volunteer work

abroad. After analyzing the options AIESEC had given me, I ended up choosing Italy and,

although I wasn't sure about it at first, I can assure you now it was the best decision I could

have taken.

Italy is not only a place full of historical places and art (by the way, these are amazing), but also

a country full of beautiful sights, delicious food and amazingly kind people.

I worked at F. Albert Institute in Lanzo Torinese for 6 weeks, and during this time I met lots of

helpful, friendly students, teachers, workmates and local people.

My host family was also incredibly nice to me! I had tons of fun spending time with and

learning from them! Piero (host father), Giuliana (host mother), Lorenzo (host brother) and

Briciola (host cat) were very receptive and loving since the first day I arrived in Venaria.

Besides all these things, I also met many volunteers from other countries, and I had plenty of

good moments with all of them.

This experience was extremely life changing, and I wish more people could have this

opportunity.

For now, I just want to say 'grazie mille per tutto', Italy!

RIFLESSIONI DELLA FAMIGLIA CHE HA OSPITATO LUCAS

La nostra esperienza con il Progetto Educhange è stata molto positiva.

All’inizio avevamo dei dubbi e domande che si sono dissolti abbastanza velocemente. Abbiamo

dato la nostra disponibilità inizialmente per tre settimane, ma dopo poco tempo l’abbiamo

estesa per tutto il periodo. Questo ci ha consentito di avere un’esperienza completa di cui

conserveremo sempre un bel ricordo e dalla quale è nata una bella amicizia.

Lucas si è mostrato fin da subito una persona molto socievole, volenterosa di integrarsi nel

contesto familiare, molto rispettosa delle nostre abitudini, curioso. Dal canto nostro abbiamo

cercato di “farlo sentire a casa” più che un ospite, per cui lo abbiamo invogliato sempre ad

esprimersi serenamente. In questo modo non sono mai sorte incomprensioni.

Attraverso le nostre lunghe chiacchierate durante e dopo l’ora di cena, abbiamo potuto

conoscere un po’ del suo Brasile, delle sue abitudini e della sua famiglia. Noi gli abbiamo

raccontato un po’ della nostra storia e vita quotidiana, delle nostre abitudini e delle nostre

famiglie di origine.

Lo scambio, nella sua semplicità, si è rivelato completamente autentico e Lucas ci mancherà

molto.
