S.J.S. Engineering was set up in 2000. Since then, a team of experts inthe design of maritime works and infrastructures has offered a widerange of integrated engineering services.

The Company’s main offices are in Rome; however, there are twoadditional branch offices. The Company was entitled a UNI EN 9001-2008 Quality Management Certificate.

SJS Engineering Team is composed of 11 engineers and architects, 5technical experts plus administrative and clerical staff.

A group of external Experts supports the Company in the mostchallenging projects. All our external experts have cooperated with usfor a long time, enriching the project with their technical and scientificexpertise and contributing to the creation of our well-known qualityprocedures.

The experts composing our highly-specialized Team pool their skillsand the resources made available by the Group: thanks to thisintegrated approach, SJS Engineering s.r.l. has achieved importantgoals both on the national and international level. SJS Engineeringworks in close contact with major logistics and ground and seatransport companies and with one of the major Italian oil companies.

The Company also has two Branch Offices based in Moscow andCheboksary with a mixed Italian-Russian team. They hold thenecessary partnerships to operate in the Russian Federation, both forconstruction and design activities and for preliminary investigations.

OTHER SERVICES:Work Supervision also included the following services:

Analysis of transport facilities inside the construction site. The analysis was aimed at excluding interferencesduring the disposal and withdrawal of dredged sediments;

The embankment protecting the depositing site was designed during the project itself, with the aim ofincreasing effectiveness of the depositing site;

Potential division of the depositing site in sub-areas. The analysis was carried out in order to ensure perfecttracking of various types of disposed sediments;

Monitoring of disposed sediments through periodical detailed topographic surveys. The amount of residualsediments to be disposed in the depositing site is calculated with the help of state-of-the art computingsoftware (Autodesk Civil 3D).

THE PROJECT:Operational sea bottom dredging is being carriedout, in order to allow the correct maneuvring ofvessels both during access and berthing stages;

The quay (length 865 m) and operational yard(total area 370.000 m2) were constructed usingdredged material. A container terminal will beconstructed on the reclaimed land;

Construction of new Multi-Purpose Dock (365 m);

Construction of main breakwater (845m) equippedwith liquid bulk handling facilities. The liquid bulkterminal is composed of three mooring berths: twofor 50.000 dwt vessels and one for 100.000 dwtvessels;

Interferences between the dock and theTorrevaldaliga Sud Thermal Electric Plant coolingcircuit were eliminated.

THE PROJECT:The general D.E.G.M. project was divided into lots. The firstlot regards dredgins and depositing site. The works includedin the first lot can be summarized as follows :

ROCK FILLS: temporary and permanent rockfills protectingthe depositing site and the embankment area built innatural stone and Antifer blocks. The first rockfill supportsthe embankment area between the rockfill itself and thecoast. This rockfill is to be removed when the permanentembankment is complete. The second rockfill will remainbehind the multi-functional wharf. It will support the wharfitself and protect it from floodings.DREDGINGS: Dredgings are to be carried out bymechanical and hydraulic dredgers.DEPOSITING SITE: the depositing site borders with thecoast on two sides. On the third side (length:approximately 450 m) and fourth side (length:approximately 870 m) the depositing site borders with thetwo rockfills described above. Two mounds of approximateheight amounting to +13m a.s.l. (total volume:appr.1.712.000m3) will be deposited on the site. All thesoil deposited in the temporary site will later be re-usedfor the construction of the permanent embankment andfor filling the caissons under the wharves.
