review, RTM team interviewed officials of UNICEF, BBS and Mitra and Associates as well as some field workers involved in the survey. Need Assessment Study of Nurses in Bangladesh RTM has been requested by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to conduct a study to assess the current and future demand for nurses in the country. Swiss-contact KATALYST has agreed to provide financial support to RTM to conduct the study. For the study, RTM has collected secondary data in the form of national level statistics on the various regessors from MoHFW, DGHS, BBS, WHO and other sources. For reliable projections the coefficients will be validated, which would require collection of primary data from various healthcare facilities. An econometric analysis will be done to estimate the number of nurses which will be required in the country over the next 10 years. Other studies/surveys RTM has conducted several studies during the last few years and has gathered

experience in conducting research studies and surveys. Important among them are: - Assessment of Met and Unmet Reproductive and Child Health Needs of Clients

of Urban Family Health Partnership (March 2001); - Adolescent and Reproductive Health: A baseline study from selected urban areas

of Bangladesh (February 2000); - A study on Customer Satisfaction Monitoring at UFHP clinics (September 2000); - A study to understand current popular perceptions of IUD (August 2000); - Activities undertaken by GoB and other partners implementing reproductive

rights and reproductive health recommendation: An Assessment (February 2001); - Health sector study of the urban industrial workers in Bangladesh (November

2001). - Three market assessment studies on private healthcare sector (2004). Performance Monitoring RTM worked as a resource organization for the Ministry of Health and Family

Welfare and development partners in designing a ‘Monitoring and Evaluation Plan’ of the Bangladesh health sector (HNPSP). The support through this consultancy will form the basis of government M&E Plan for the health sector and will cover both the routine MIS and periodic data management.

RTM has also provided refresher training to the government MCWC staff on the use of computer facilities for MIS. The training program covered all 64 MCWC’s of Bangladesh.

RTM successfully implemented the Urban Family Health Partnership (UFHP) project in collaboration with 24 service delivery NGOs. In order to ensure the highest level of service quality within the UFHP network, the quality of information, services and products as well as customer satisfaction were aimed to be improved. The NGOs performance analysis report was introduced to transform data already collected by the UFHP MIS into indicators of program success that would be useful to the managers for decision-making. Each report ranked clinic and NGO status and progress against each indicator, giving UFHP a way to identify and recognize those NGOs and clinics showing the most overall performance.
