4 The Beech woods – The Gendarme Path

Surrounded by beech woods with a landscape from the ice-age

Have you ever heard the wind blowing through the tree-tops…? Experienced a sky full of stars on a wind silent night? Seen the sparkling lights from a town on the other side in a glassy inlet? Have you ever given yourself time to enjoy the nature at all seasons of the year…?Ever went for a walk through the forest when the beech blooms or when the autumn leaves change to golden colours covering the landscape in a range of colours, reminding us that the winter season is getting closer…?At Frigård Camping we guarantee you unforgettable mo-ments in the nature all year through.

A walk through the forests around us cannot be de-scribed… you must experience it yourself… Beautiful paths, bridges over deep gorges created by the ice age, steep slopes down to the fjord, small babbling springs, small solitary beaches…

Did you know… that we have mountain newts?

Enjoy nature and get acquainted with the history from the past… Access to the forests is mainly by following the Gendarme path signs…The Gendarme Path got its name from the old border Gendarmes, who during a

number of years circulated along the Danish – German bor-der controlling the border and the ships along the coast.

Patrolling normally took place by foot and every single blue dressed Gendarme had a certain part of the border to take care of. In some places paths and small roads already existed, others were made through private lands. This way, the Gendarme Path, which these days is an exercise path was created.
