6 PPAM Evolve 2019

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since Evolve 2018. What a great year it has been for PPAM. We had 23 events in 2018. Visionary presenters and top-notch national educators ran sessions, as did home-grown talent in our Photopalooza series. 2019 is shaping up to be even better! Evolve 2019 has amazing talent found by our dedicated convention committee. I can’t thank them enough for the hard work they did putting this lineup together.

We are so lucky to have 14 talented photographers sharing their knowledge

with us at Evolve 2019. It’s a great mix of business, creativity and back-to-basics programs. It’s just what you need to refresh and get inspired for another year. The convention has something for everyone, and don’t forget about image competition. We have great judges this year and I hope to see you in club 79 cheering each other on. Then, we’ll celebrate the winners and our organization at the Black Tie and Bling Awards party!

It has been a rewarding journey serving as President of the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts for the last two years. I thank you, the membership, for allowing me to give back to the association and help it Evolve for the future. I am passionate about professional photography education and PPAM. I hope I have helped inspire others to the same goal. PPAM is an amazing resource. I hope you take advantage of the education, camaraderie and support PPAM can provide. Get involved and volunteer, too. I want to recognize the numerous board members, committee chairs, and volunteers who have made PPAM happen. As an all-volunteer organization, every workshop, competition, and the convention we offer is only possible as a result of photographers willing to give back some time and energy to our group. On behalf of all our members: thank you for your service to our group.

As life continues to move fast and faster, take the time to focus on your business and your craft at Evolve 2019!

20 PPAM Evolve 2019

Today’s High School Senior - 10 am Gail Lucozzi

Not every senior arrives happy with anticipation or excited for their session, so come find out how Gail (and George) turns a grumpy senior into a happy client. Learn a simple lighting set up, how to put students at ease and engage them to capture winning portraits moms will love.

At the same time, you’ll learn that having a studio doesn’t mean having perfect grounds, and a perfect setting isn’t required for stunning portraits.

Gail and George started working together in 1996 photographing weddings. Since then, they added theater photography, portrait work and even a new studio space in the historic Faulkner Mills of North Billerica. This location, like their relationship, was another ‘love-at-first-sight’ moment, is now global headquarters for Lucozzi Portraits.

Beauty & Boudoir - 11 am Stephanie C. Olsen, CPP

In this class, I will focus mostly on how I photograph in a small space by manipulating natural light and creating sets. These techniques cross over nicely on a wedding day for general bride getting ready portraits too. I will show you images of my setups for many different qualities of light as well as the finished portrait that was created with that set.

We will touch a bit on continuous light sources as well. I will share with you my camera settings and touch upon my editing and post production techniques. I use the same techniques for my senior portraits girls and boys too.

We will also review posing techniques and how to get your client to relax and trust you, making the connection you want to help make beautiful images. Studio atmospheres and offerings are also a big part of the experience and I will also give you a glimpse into that.

I will give information on programs I use to run my business from studio management software, design programs, product resources and more. I’m happy to share my pricing and collections and marketing will also be a conversation as well.

The Beauty of Childhood - 9 amAnn Murfin, M.Photog., M.Artist.Cr., CPP

Ann has been creating timeless portraits of children for 16 years. During that time she has earned both Master Photographer and Master Artist degrees from PPA as well as 42 images and albums in PPA’s Loan Collection.

Join Ann as she goes through her process of creating a timeless portrait going from capture to finished piece. She will use both Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter in her session.

Ann will also discuss the importance of lighting to create depth and mood.

She will show you that it takes a few well-employed elements to create a striking portrait - lighting, color harmony, composition and a child.
