A Level Music plus Subsidiary Diploma in Jazz and Popular

Music Performance

How does the course work? In addition to studying A Level Music, students will participate in 4.5 hours of practical music tuition in pop and jazz styles. All students will receive one hour of weekly individual tuition on two instruments (one to be keyboard or piano) as well as weekly jazz or pop band coaching. Students on the course would have opportunities to perform at a range of events throughout the year and will be encouraged to study for an ABRSM Diploma on their main instrument. They will also learn how to prepare for a career in music.

Can I take this course alongside other A Levels? The PPS music course can be studied alongside other subject choices or as a full time course combined with A Level Music Technology. The musical style of the PPS offers Classical, Jazz & Pop experience and enables students to become more versatile performers, equipping them with the skills to compete for highly sought-after conservatoire places, and to work in a professional environment. Alternatively, students may take the RSL Music Practitioners Course in Jazz & Pop alongside their other subject choices or as an enrichment option.

Who can join?Any student with the potential to achieve a minimum of Grade 8 on their instrument over the two year course can apply for the Professional Performance Studies course. It is not necessary to have passed music exams and students will be auditioned to ensure that they have the skills required for the course.

What qualifications do I gain as part of the PPS?• ALevelMusic• RSL Music Practitioners Level 3 Extended Certificate (Year 1 - equivalent to ½ A Level)• RSLMusicPractitionersLevel3SubsidiaryDiploma(Year2-equivalentto1½ALevels)• Optional-ABRSMDiploma
