Job purpose

The Chief Nurse has Board level responsibility for professional nursing, midwifery and therapy issues and provides strong leadership across these professions, encouraging innovation, creativity and strategic thinking about service provision.

As a Board voting executive member, the Chief Nurse accepts shared accountability for the achievement of the trust’s strategic and operational objectives and for setting and exemplifying the Trust’s values and standards and for ensuring that its obligations to internal and external stakeholders are understood and met.

As Chief Nurse the post-holder will ensure that, along with the implementation of the Trust’s values, that the 6Cs of nursing care are implemented.

The Chief Nurse takes specific leadership responsibility for:

Providing leadership and board representation for all nursing, midwifery (through the director of midwifery) and therapy staff (through the director of therapies).

Development and leading the implementation of the Quality Improvement Strategy. Developing and implementing patient safety systems and processes within the Trust. Being Director of Infection Prevention and Control for the Trust and the Trust board lead

for adult and children’s safeguarding issues.
