All candidates applying for a Washington State teaching certificate after January 2004 will need to submit a PGP to the department for examination prior to certification. The following Center for Teaching and Learning Standards describe competencies Central Washington University candidates for the Residency Certificate will have addressed: Candidates demonstrate subject matter knowledge in areas of endorsement. Candidates demonstrate a thorough understanding of pedagogical content knowledge. Candidates demonstrate a thorough understanding of professional and pedagogical knowledge and skills. Candidates reflect dispositions expected of professional educators. Candidates demonstrate a positive impact on student learning. Candidates have opportunities to work with a diverse representation of P-12 students. Your PGP will be a document that will specify your strength and growth areas for teaching relevant to the WAC 180-78A-270 standards for Foundational Knowledge, Effective Teaching, and Professional Development. A template is provided for your use. 1. Describe 3-5 areas of strength and 3-5 areas of growth that have been identified during your student teaching experience. Identify the appropriate CTL Standard for each strength and area of growth. This could be developed in collaboration with your supervisor and/or cooperating teacher during one of your conferences. 2. Identify and describe 2-3 individual goals as a focus for the next two years of your career. Provide a short rationale for why you selected these goals and how they relate to the Center for Teacher and Learning Standards and Washington State WAC standards. 3. Note the method and resources that could be helpful to you in achieving your goals. Explain these giving specific details (books, educators, courses, materials) wherever possible. The Professional Growth Plan (PGP) is a plan that incorporates individual-based goals in alignment with professional teaching standards. All candidates applying for a Washington State teaching certificate after January 2004 will need to submit a PGP to the department for examination prior to certification.
