During the first 500 years, the knife from Mora was developed by the users themselvesPeople have inhabited the region north of Mora since the Iron Age. The soil here is poor, so the farmers were forced to supplement their income with something other than agriculture. As there were plenty of trees and iron ore, the farmers soon became skilled at utilising these natural resources. They used the wood and iron to make furniture, tools, equipment and other readily saleable items. It was advanced craftsmanship that demanded hard work and serious knives.

Frosts® for professional food industry knivesUnder the brand Frosts® we manufacture a complete range of food industry knives for professionals. Carefully selected knife steel enables our knives to be sharpened to an extreme edge, and provides them with sharpness that lasts. The handles are ergonomically designed. This allows work to be done with force, precision and in a controlled manner, which reduces the risk for work and repetitive strain injuries. Since 1891 Centuries of developmentMora has been famous for its fine knives since the 1600s, and probably even earlier. To start with, they were made on the farms around Mora by the people who actually used them. The same people who built sleighs, furniture, household utensils, Dala Horse figures and so on, thus made their own knives. This direct interaction between use and manufacture inevitably had a significant effect on how the knives developed. Step by step, the knives were refined and redesigned through centuries of practical application.

Firmly anchored in this long tradition of craftsman-ship, Erik Frost founded our first factory in Östnor just outside Mora in 1891. He succeeded in com-bining the advantages of hand-forged blades and industrial manufacture. The result was a knife with a comfortable handle and a very sharp and robust blade.

In 2005, the companies Frosts Knivfabrik and KJ Eriksson joined forces to establish the family-owned enterprise Mora of Sweden. Our factory is still located in Östnor – just as it was a century ago. This is where we manufacture all our knives using a combination of craftsman’s skill and modern technology – and rigorously check every step of the process. Design, material and methods are all constantly refined by staff who have inherited generations of professional knowledge.

• The difference in steel quality is clearly visible when the edge of a food industry knife from Frosts® with a high quality stainless steel blade, Sandvik 12C27, is compared with the edge on widely used stainless knife steels. Our steel is free from large primary carbides, making it possible to manufacture knives with extremely sharp edges together with high edge retention.

Steel Quality

Carefully selected high-quality Swedish Sandvik steelA number of stages in the manufacturing process remain pure craftsmanship that demands extensive professionalism. Our blades are manufactured almost exclusively of Sandvik 12C27 steel containing 0.6% carbon and 13.5% chromium. Through our heat treatment process which is followed by a sub-zero (-80˚C.) temperature treatment, we achieve a blade hardness of 57-58 HRC, constituting the highest optimum hardness without undue negative impact on the ease of sharpening.

In this way we produce knives with an extreme strength, a long life as well a high resistance to moisture without rusting. A process that increases the durability of the knife and reduces the risk of corrosion.

The absence of large primary carbides in our knife steel gives us the possibility to grind the knife edge in a lower angle resulting in a sharper edge with a high retention thus keeping the blade sharp for a long time and contributing to excellent overall economics.

P-grip• Polypropylene handle with rough structure, a valuable alternative. This handle is reinforced with glassfiber for increased friction. Very commonly used in the Fish Industry.

Unigrip• A handle manufactured of a polyamide with a soft “feel” and high friction characteristics, unaffected by fats or humidity. The handle surface has a micro-structure resembling sharp crystals which resist wear extremely well. This handle can be recommended for the widest variety of cutting operations. Slip-resistant. Recommended for pork and lamb processing.

Progrip• Double-moulded rubber handle with an etched structure. Suitable for wet conditions. This handle consists of a polypropylene core surrounded by a layer of thermoplastic rubber which significantly increases the friction. Progrip has a warm and soft feel making it comfortable to work with. Suitable for wet condi-tions. Recommended for beef processing.
