    QCS ensures the raw materials or purchased parts forproduction meets the standard.

    Data are collected using shop-floor data collection system.

    entry, process control sensors.

    disk storage media.

    Many programs are available that aid the engineers in choosing

    materials for product under deign .

    These programs are called MATERIAL SELECTION PROGAMS(MPS)

    It helps in selecting the best materials to account of stress,

    heat, humidity, and other conditions.

    Sawyer and pecht(1986) note metal category alone, engineersmay chose 100000 materials with 80 properties.

    SHOP-FLOOR SCHEDULING SYSTEMS

    A operational task for a supervisor is to schedule production jobs.

    It includes scheduling time, building and rooms, tools and equipment,

    inventory, personnel.

    Setup time- time takes to get ready for the production run.

    Down time- time it takes to return to original state, tool requirement,

    equipment requirement and operational requirement.

    It is done by GANTT CHART

    Main advantage is optimal use of resources.

    When problem occurs such as strike of operators, late shipment of raw

    materials, equipment failure supervisor uses software to alter the schedule .
