Editing: reading a text in order to spot problematic passages, and making any needed corrections or improvements.
Revising: same task as editing applied to texts which are translations.
Proofreading: comparing the outcome of page design and typesetting with the original document.
Production editing: seeing a text through its stages from manuscript to bound book or ebook.

Process:Copy editing: editing the original (editing) and editing the translations (revising).Copy preparation: creating electronic layouts (assisted by graphic arts assistants).Proofreading: correcting the proofs until "ready to print."
