Light Bulb Illumination and Brightness Explained: The human eye’s perception of light is called luminous flux. The unit of measure for that light seen by the human eye is called Lumens. In Simple terms lumens are a measure of the amount of light that we see. Watts are the amount of electricity a bulb consumes. When choosing a bulb you want a product that produces the highest amount of lumens but uses the smallest amount of watts. Fewer watts equals lower electrical bills. Solid State Lights (LED lights) create high amounts of lumens per watt meaning that the cost per lumen is much cheaper based on energy consumption. A LED light will cost you much less in electrical bills. LED bulbs are capable of generating 2 times the brightness of light (lumens) at 1/5th of the wattage. A 6 watt LED bulb can compare to a 30 watt incandescent bulb or a 15 watt compact fluorescent. The Color Rendering Index (CRI): The color rendering index is the relative ability of a light source to replicate colors generated by a referenced light source of the same color temperature. CRI is measured as a percentage. The Wikipedia definition for CRI: "The Color Rendering Index (CRI) (sometimes called Color Rendition Index), is a measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects being lit by the source. It is a method devised by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). The best possible rendition of colors is specified by a CRI of one hundred, while the very poorest rendition is specified by a CRI of zero. For a source like a low-pressure sodium vapor lamp, which is monochromatic, the CRI is nearly zero, but for a source like an incandescent light bulb, which emits essentially black body radiation, it is nearly one hundred. The CRI is measured by comparing the color rendering of the test source to that of a "perfect" source which is generally a black body radiator, except for sources with color temperatures above
