The system is built around a very rugged high-end PC tablet and a true sub-meter D-GPS receiver and is connected to the machine’s PLC. An innovative piece of software developed by Coppernic guarantees that each and every container will be moved to the correct location as defined by your TOS. THE HEART OF THE SOLUTION Perfectly integrated in its docking station, both mechani- cally and electrically, this tablet PC is a unique and exceptional mix of ruggedness, power and performance. A very complete port replicator located under the station allows it to be connected and to control many peripheral devices including the vehicle’s programmable logic controller and the very-high-precision D-GPS receiver. Everything has been designed to offer to the operator the best working ergonomics possible, and in particular: • A wide touch screen that offers exceptional readability even in direct sunlight as well as a capacity to navigate and enter with the finger and/or with an active stylus; • An installation tailored to the cabin of each type of vehicle that allows you to optimize the comfort and safety of the operator's workspace. In order to attain the decimetre (10cm/4”) accuracy required by our application, we have implemented a complete positioning solution built around: • A range of industrial and professional D-GPS receivers able to deliver in all conditions an accuracy of less than one meter thanks to their excellent intrinsic qualities and their ability to integrate the bias corrections provided by the SBAS System (Satellite Based Augmentation System). • An “anchor point“ or local base installed on site which allows calculation and communication in real time of very accurate position corrections to be applied at the current time and around the working area to take into account of the main sources of error which usually degrade the performance of GPS systems such as: atmospheric errors, orbital errors, drift of satellites clocks, multiple paths related to the metallic environment particularly sensitive on a containers storage yard. THAT IMPROVES THE RELIABILITY OF CONTAINERS PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF. In order to optimize the containers pick-up and drop-off process, Coppernic has developed a software application that interfaces with: • The onboard D-GPS receiver that continuously provides the optimized geodesic coordinates of the vehicle ; • The PLC which operates the locking and unlocking of the containers ; • The TOS (Terminal Operating System) which will "orchestrate" these processes. When the operator is about to perform a movement (drop-off or pick-up), the application will compare its D-GPS coordinates and those of locations referenced in the detailed map of the yard in order to determine precisely the position of the vehicle. If this position matches the foreseen mission, then the system will grant authorization to operate the locks in order to achieve the desired operation. Otherwise, the locking or unlocking is inhibited by the system and the supervisor will be offered to interpret the non-conformity and deal with the situation.
