    1 About this Release

    LEICA GEO OFFICE VERSION 8.1

LEICA Geo Office (LGO) is the office software, which accompanies the LEICA Viva series. It supports all measurement types (TPS, GNSS and level data) and is the ideal tool to view, process, quality-check and archive data before exporting it to virtually any format required by subsequent mapping or engineering software packages.

While LEICA Geo Office is the perfect partner for Viva GNSS and TPS instruments, it also supports the FlexLine series as well as the existing range of TPS, GNSS and Level instruments.

    2.1 Google Earth

LGO version 8.1 allows you to visualize your survey data in the satellite images offered by Google Earth. Launch the functionality for an open project from the View main menu or from the new toolbar button.

The following information can be exported to Google Earth:

Points Lines Areas Observations (TPS, GPS) Surfaces (triangles, contours) Images

Note that Google Earth must be installed on your computer and geodetic (WGS84) coordinates must be available for your points.

    2.2 Rinex 3.01 Import /Export

RINEX stands for Receiver Independent Exchange format and has become a standard for GNSS data. Recently version 3.01 has been released and is supported in LGO 8.1 during Import and Export. For a detailed description see ftp://ftp.unibe.ch/aiub/rinex/rinex301.pdf

  • 4/11

During Export you can choose which version to export. The most commonly used RINEX format version 2.11 is still supported as well.

    2.3 Improvements for Images

LEICA Geo Office version 8.1 supports importing images from files stored on your computer. This enables you to add images not taken with SmartWorx Viva to your project.

Additionally the following improvements have been added when working with images:

    2.5 Rename Tool

The new Rename Tool allows you to rename a selection of Point IDs, and likewise Line or Area IDs.

This new tool helps you to quickly rename many items, which is useful for example when a wrong point ID template has been used in the field or when many points were imported from a CAD background file.

Select the items to be renamed in the Points or in the View/Edit tabbed view (or in the Lines/Areas view).

You can rename the selected items

by renumbering starting from a specific value using a counter by adding fixed characters to the ID using Search&Replace to replace (or remove) some characters

A preview showing the new IDs is available before applying the changes.

3 Notes about licensing and installations

    LICENSING

Leica Geosystems supports software licensing based on license activation over the Internet.

    The Leica software licensing

allows instant upgrades of additionally purchased software options allows self-service for customers with Leica myWorld to download the

    Entitlement Certificate

provides centralized license management for customers with a local license server

allows easy use of multiple software products on the same PC without any dongle issues

    is future-proof and very flexible

    Introduction & Installation

Leica Geosystems provides a detailed manual that explains the new Leica Software Licensing and guides you step-by-step through the new software installation process.

This installation guide is available on your LEICA Geo Office DVD or can be downloaded from the Leica Geosystems website.

LICENSE MODELS Leica Geosystems offers two different License Models matching different user requirements:

    Node-locked Floating

Node-locked licenses are tied to a single PC and are, therefore, the ideal choice for working remotely or for single dedicated users, who do not need to share the license within a network.

Floating licenses can be shared between multiple users working on different PCs within the same network. A local license server running within the network manages the floating licenses.

    ENTITLEMENT ID

The Entitlement ID is the key to initial license activation and re-ordering of additional software options or Customer Care Packages (CCP).

The Entitlement ID consists of 25 alphanumeric numbers, for example 12345-67890-12345-54321-E7890

The Entitlement ID for a software product never changes and should be kept in a safe place.

  • 10/11

Do not forget to re-host your Entitlement ID before you intend to change your operating system or format your PC hard disk.

ACTIVATION OF LEICA GEO OFFICE SOFTWARE

For the initial installation and activation of LEICA Geo Office an Internet connection is required. The Entitlement ID must be entered during the installation.

Once installed and activated this internet connection is no longer required. It is only required for activating additionally purchased software options or software maintenance (CCPs).

All subsequent orders like maintenance contract extensions, additional options, etc. are linked to the same Entitlement ID by adding additional products to the Entitlement. Each new product must be activated first for getting the additional license rights.

Note that always the entire Entitlement ID is activated. It is not possible to activate only particular products contained in the Entitlement ID.

MAINTENANCE CONCEPT Software maintenance entitles a customer to free of charge software updates within a given time period. LEICA Geo Office includes software maintenance of 90 days after the software has been ordered. Software maintenance can be extended by ordering Customer Care Packages with durations of 1, 2 or 3 years.

UPGRADES TO VERSION 8.1 Upgrading to LEICA Geo Office version 8.1 is only possible if you have a valid software maintenance key with an expiry date beyond the release date of LGO version 8.1 (May 6th, 2011).

RE-HOSTING Re-hosting means permanently transferring a license from one PC or Local License Server to another. Re-hosting requires that the license has previously been registered at the Customer Web Portal myWorld. Re-hosting a license is only allowed for a limited number of times a year.

Node Locked Licenses: 4 times a year Floating Licenses: 2 times a year

SKIP ACTIVATION When installing LGO version 8.1 there is a new checkbox to skip the activation process. You can do so if you have already activated the license before.

OPTIONS FILE FOR SERVER The options file allows the server administrator to control the license server behaviour.

For floating licenses the license administrator can for example:

Deny/Allow a user access to a feature Deny a user to borrow the license

For details on how to customise the options file please contact your local Leica representative.
