Active CEC Control 4K Multiview EnQ

Consumer Electronics Control is capable of communicating power, switching and volume commands between devices. CEC commands are communicated in an HDMI cable and are typically used to enable ‘consumer electronics’ devices to communicate without the need for either a separate remote, or line-of-sight between the user and device.

WyreStorm already embraces this technology, with our HDBaseT extenders passing the CEC signal from screen to source for several years. This new generation of switchers also have Active CEC providing the ability to trigger a screen’s power on and off either automatically or via the control protocol; meaning IR emitters stuck to the front of a display are a thing of the past!

Full motion video from multiple source devices can be shown at the same time, allowing the viewer to monitor up to 4 sources at the same time. The ability to show several images on a single screen at the same time has, in the past, been a feature limited to extremely high-end image processing equipment. Applications are wide for this type of product, with hospitality, corporate and home office applications…even Man Caves!

WyreStorm is thrilled to be able to offer the SW-0402-MV-HDMI switcher/scaler. Affordable 4K scaling with quad-view mode, dual output, PiP and an audio matrix all exist within this first for the WyreStorm range.

enQ is an audio DSP technology platform currently being developed by WyreStorm. enQ now has its first outing in the SW-0501 & SW-1001-HDBT presentation switchers. enQ has been developed with large meeting & conference and education sectors in mind, allowing multiple analog sources to be digitally mixed, equalized and balanced for playback in large venues via an existing in-house amplification system or our AMP-001-010. The enQ system will be a vital addition to installations requiring a professional level DSP without having to pay professional prices.

NetworkHD 100 & 200’s H.264 compression is our highest quality, low bandwidth solution at the sacrifice of slightly higher latency - making it better suited to signage and video content distribution. It’s compression is completely configurable so that low latency mode and bandwidth control can be set where visually lossless quality is not required. The addition of an on board scaler in the

100 and 200 series decoders ensure instant, seamless switching between content of any resolution.

At the base of many traditional systems are fixed platform matrix devices. These devices rely on inflexible standard configurations of 8x8, 16x16, 32x32 and often rely on video inputs being local to the system. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) has been around since 2001 when Intel required a method of protecting digital content as it passed between 2 locations, with the goal being to stop such content being viewed or replicated on unauthorized computers. The latest version of the HDCP standard that has been the talking point of many a webinar and editorial, HDCP 2.2 is the encryption standard that will be tied to all copyrighted UHD content from Q4 2015. Its predecessors have all been cracked in recent years, meaning that a new copy protection standard was needed to protect the huge amount of 4K content due to be available soon. WyreStorm already has a plan in place for this new encryption standard and has support for HDCP 2.2 in HDBaseT matrices and extender solutions.

ARC, or ‘Audio Return Channel’ is essentially unique to the residential market. Unlike most HDMI information that flows ‘downstream’ to the screen, it allows audio information to flow ‘upstream’ from a smart TV to a compatible device, usually an AV receiver (AVR).

Therefore, a separate audio interconnection is not required. Content available within the TV, whether it be locally connected, network connected or on-demand can have its audio sent via the ARC channel to a nearby connected AVR. This means that the content can be played through the local speakers just as if it were connected to the AVR itself.

WyreStorm will soon offer ARC compatible HDBaseT matrices and an extender enabling ARC content from a screen to be fed ‘upstream’ via HDBaseT to 100m away and connect to any audio amplification system.

ARC is also supported in the AMP-001-010.

The 4K revolution and all the people behind it have left us with a plethora of terms and acronyms that would make the most tech-savvy amongst us blush. Plus, we have 2 ‘versions’ of 4K resolution: both have 2160 progressively scanned horizontal lines; UHD, has 3840 vertical lines and DCI, has 4096 vertical lines. The ‘compatibility-critical’ bit is the refresh rate and color palette that are adopted, and they are largely determined by the source device being used. 30Hz content with a higher color pallet of 4:4:4 is mainly used for PCs and graphics-based applications, 60Hz content using 4:2:0 color sampling will largely be adopted by the broadcasters and studios for distribution of UHD movies and TV shows. WyreStorm’s 4K range can handle both resolutions without issue.
