LV/low-risk roads (less than 250vpd - less than 20 vehicles per hour)When on the shoulder:• If CSD not available: Advance warning sign and base to be installed with sign visibility distance and warning distance in place• If CSD available: Advance warning sign may be attached to the rear of a work vehicle which has an amber flashing beacon(s) and is visible to approaching road users from the rear.
When the activity encroaches onto a live lane consider alternating flow controls. If the above requirements cannot be achieved, the operation must be modified to comply with the appropriate level LV or level 1 requirements.
* Larger minimum distances apply on all state highways and also on all multi-lane roads. The smaller minimum distances may be applied on the other roads to accommodate road environment constraints.
+ On LV roads the longitudinal and lateral safety zones may be reduced, or eliminated, in order to retain a single lane width. Positive traffic management and an appropriate TSL must be used.
# On non-state highways with speeds 50km/h or less, a 10m taper (with cones at 1m centres) may be used when there are road environment constraints (eg intersections and commercial accesses). On all roads where shoulder width is less than 2.5m and the activity does not affect the live lane, a 10m shoulder taper is permitted (with at least 5 cones at no greater than 2.5m centres). A taper of 30m (with cones at 2.5m centres) must be used where manual traffic control (stop/go), portable traffic signals or priority give way are employed.
## LV roads: double the cone spacing alongside working space (eg 5 = 10, 10 = 20).

* A longitudinal safety zone is not required when a barrier completely protects the approach end of the worksite.
** Taper length is based on a single lane shift of 3.5m.
+ The longer distance is the desirable distance, the shorter distance is the minimum distance required. The longer distances must be used wherever possible. The shorter distances may only be used where there are road environment constraints.
Except for delineation device spacings, which are maximum values, the distances specified in the above tables are minimum values.
Approach sign distances and spacings, the initial taper(s) and any longitudinal safety zone associated with that taper must be based on the permanent speed limit. The layout distances of the remainder of the worksite, including any subsequent tapers, may be based on the TSL, provided the TSL is applied prior to the first taper.

Mounting situation Minimum desirablemounting height (m)
General minimumThis is the height the sign must be mounted as a basic minimum requirement. In some situations, heights may be lower, such as chevron boards on roundabouts, curves, etc
1.5 Mounting height must be measured from the underside of the sign, or the lowest sign in an assembly of signs, to the surface of the adjacent road, trafficable shoulder or top of kerb, whichever is the criticaldimensionRural areas (no footpath) small sign 1.5
large sign 2.1
Urban areas (not over or near a footpath) Mounting heights need to be increased in urban areas to avoid sign visibility problems caused by parked vehicles
small sign 2.0
large sign 2.1
Over or near a footpath if likely to obstruct 2.5 Mounting height must be measured to the ground surface or footpath immediately beneath the sign
Overhead signsMounting height is important when there is no alternative route for over-dimension loads. (An absolute minimum of 5.3m can be used where the sign is located over an emergency shoulder or parking lane)
6.0 Mounting height must bemeasured to the road surface immediately below the sign

Mounting Heights - Single Post
Mounting Heights
• For signs with two posts, the spacing should be approximately 60 percent of the sign width.
• Where signs are located on a footpath, consideration needs to be given to pedestrian accessibility around the post and to providing sufficient width to avoid the risk of an errant vehicle striking one or more posts. Further information can be found in the NZTA’s State highway geometric design manual and the RSMA Compliance standard for traffic signs.
Note 1: The offset from the barrier will depend on the type of barrier system, i.e. rigid, semi-rigid andnon-rigid barriers. Note 2: Distance between posts is determined by the width of the sign. Refer to section 7.3.4 of this document.

Where minimum lateral clearances for kerbed roadways in table 7.2 cannot be provided, the mounting height above the roadway should be increased to at least 4.6m to avoid damage from trucks and vans.

Cleaning Agent Cautions UsesWater (+ a few drops of detergent)
This is the first cleaner to be tried. It is best when cleaning typical road film and pollen from sign face.
Can be used on signs made with overlay vinyls and or signs made with screen printed legends.
Isopropyl Alcohol IPA+ 50% water
A good cleaner that may remove some graffiti and it is an ideal cleaner for surface grease.
Can be used on signs made with overlay vinyls and or signs made with screen printed legends.
Citrus based Cleaner
This cleaner can be very effective cleaning new graffiti and removing adhesive grease.
Can be used on signs made with overlay vinyls and or signs made with screen printed legends.
Kerosene or mineral spirits
This is used when others in line don’t work. It is better at removing many paints but care should be taken not to scrub too hard as this may damage the surface.
Care should be taken not to use this type of cleaning agent if the sign has a screen printed legend as it may also remove the sign legend. It can be used if the sign has a graffiti protective overlay.
Lacquer Thinners& Acetone(use with care)
Use of this agent is not recommended unless all other cleaners have been tried. It is highly likely to damage the sign if not used sparingly and lightly on the specific area only.
Use with CAUTION. Solvent based cleaning agents will remove screen printed legends and using this type of cleaning agent may in itself damage the sign and should only be used as a last resort. Can be used with care over graffiti protective overlay.
To keep signs in the best possible condition, we recommend regular cleaning. This maximizes the sign visibility/ performance.

Our flush mounted LED lights are designed to set a new standard of in-road lighting. They are simple to install, easy to maintain, intelligent, durable and versatile across a broad range of LED road safety applications.
The LED lights use inductive power therefore no physical wire connection between the power source (buried cable) and the light. Fast installation and easy maintenance are the main benefits over traditional hardwired systems.
The capabilities of the inductive power system provide the LED lights with an array of functions such as dimming, flashing, sequencing animation, and lights being fully controllable and programmable.
- Light units are uniquely addressable- Built to perform in extreme conditions- High impact UV stable polycarbonate housing- Scratch resistant coating- Waterproof, no corrosion- Flush mounted- Inductively powered- Self-cleaning design
