PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT EMPHASIS The Product Development Emphasis provides students with a hands-on and team-based learning environment, as well as access to traditional and state-of-art digital fabrication facilities. Students in this emphasis practice identifying market needs, developing product ideas, designing digital models, selecting fabrication or procurement processes and generating prototypes. Metallic and non-metallic materials, traditional manufacturing processes and industrial automation are also part of the curriculum. Additionally, various lab projects allow students practice the application of modern technologies including: CAD modeling CAD/CAM programming CNC programming and machining Waterjet cutting Robot programming Rapid prototyping with 3-D printers Smart manufacturing Orfalea College of Business INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY CONCENTRATION The Industrial Technology Concentration offers students a broad education in technology management and business that make participants versatile contributors in a wide variety of industries. Students develop knowledge and skills in operations management and planning, supply chain, quality control, product development, automation and project management. The IT Concentration provides students with a practical insight to what it will take to run a business, manufacturing or service organization. IT graduates form the bridge between engineering and business. Through a combination of core, concentration and approved elective courses, students can further specialize their education in three focus areas of Supply Chain Management, Product Development or Process Improvement.
