About This Chapter

The NetBackup 5020 is an integrated backup device with high-density and high-performance.

It consists of the backup device, backup software, and backup media. The NetBackup 5020

fulfills the unified management of the software and hardware, which reduces operations and

maintenance cost, and minimizes the total cost of ownership (TCO).

1.1 Product Appearance

This section describes the appearance of the NetBackup 5020.

The NetBackup 5020 is 4U high and contains 24 disks. Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of

the NetBackup 5020.

The height, width, and depth of the NetBackup 5020 are respectively 175 mm, 446 mm,

685 mm.

It can be installed in a standard 19-inch cabinet or in a cabinet with a depth of 1,000 mm

(or larger).

1.2 Hardware Structure

This section describes the hardware structure of the NetBackup 5020.

The NetBackup 5020 adopts the modular design and contains the following parts:

Figure 1-4 shows the disk slots.

From bottom to top and right to left, the 24 slots of the NetBackup 5020 are numbered from a

to x, with the bottom right one numbered a.

Disks in slot a and slot b are system disks that form a RAID 1 group. Do not remove or

insert the system disks unnecessarily. Otherwise, the system data may be damaged.

Disks in slot c and slot d are the global hot spare disks.

Disks in other slots are data disks that form a RAID 6 group.

Electrical Equipment (referred to as the IECEE) is based on the use of

FCC Chapter 15 in FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Rules and

Regulations. The device conforms to the standard for level A digital device

according to the test.

REACH REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

(REACH) is a compellent management rule to manage all the chemicals

The NetBackup 5020 can provide storage capacity for storing other data besides the

system data on the system disks. Except for the system disks and hot spare disks, all

other disks are data disks and provide storage capacity.

When data is being read or written on disks, do not power off the device by turning off the

mains power or pressing the power button. Otherwise, the disks data may be damaged. To

power off the device, stop reading and writing data on the disks first and then send a

shutdown command through the OS.

The power module provides power for the NetBackup 5020. There are two AC power module

slots at the back of the NetBackup 5020 chassis.

The power modules support hot swapping. A fault on one power module does not affect the

normal running of the NetBackup 5020.

Features

The mainboard processes services and provides inband and outofband management and

baseboard management controller (BMC) module. It supports IPMI 2.0 and monitors and

manages devices through an inband channel and an outofband channel.

The inband channel management uses a service channel to manage the NetBackup 5020, such as the

service network port; the outofband channel management uses the management channel to manage the

NetBackup 5020, such as the management network port.

3.1.2 Grounding Cable

This section describes the structure, cable connection list, and technical specifications of the

grounding cable.

The NetBackup 5020 is configured with one grounding cable. One end of the cable connects

to the grounding clip of the NetBackup 5020, and the other end connects to the grounding

terminal of the NetBackup 5020 cabinet to ensure the safe operation of the NetBackup 5020.

The NetBackup 5020 communicates with the outside through a network cable. One end of the

network cable connects to the management network port or service network port of the

NetBackup 5020, and the other end connects to the network switch or the application server

(AS). Both ends of the cable are RJ-45 connectors.

3.2.2 Multi-Mode Fiber

This section describes the structure and technical specifications of the multi-mode fiber.

The NetBackup 5020 communicates with the FC switch through a multi-mode fiber. One end

of the multi-mode fiber connects to the 10GE service network port, and the other end

connects to the FC switch. The two ends of the multi-mode fiber are LC connectors.

Fibers are not delivered with goods. They need to be prepared by customers themselves.

NetBackup 5020, and the cable connector end connects to the system serial port of the

maintenance terminal.
