Our research and development team use FEA (finite element analysis) along with other
modeling software at the design stage to ensure each component and, ultimately, the final

CHASSIS DESIGN
Our unique twelve sided die-cast aluminium
chassis incorporates added sectional
strength and FEA designed features to assist
with efficient heat transfer and dissipation
from critical areas while also minimising
unwanted acoustic effects. Fixing holes are
positioned a good distance from the baffle
cut-out to prevent edge splitting should a
cabinet be dropped; an extra wide flange
prevents unwanted pressure, due to out-of-
position fixing, from distorting the chassis.
Many of our chassis designs also feature
additional ‘hidden’ fixing holes that allow
maximum flexibility of installation.

THE ART OF VOICE COILS
The voice coil is the heart of the speaker,
which is why we control this critical design
and manufacturing process in-house. Our
proprietary coil design and manufacturing
process is carefully calculated to result in
ultimate power handling, longevity and
mechanical stability at high temperatures.
We use a variety of materials to produce
numerous coil designs ranging from 1.5” to 8”,
using a variety of wire types. Close tolerance
wires are coated with high temperature
enamel and precision wound onto an
epoxy resin-impregnated, woven glass fibre
former. This is then cured to ensure a rigid
assembly, essential for greater strength and
maximisation of energy transmission.
The laminated construction of our voice
coils, in addition to the ‘wet winding’
process, guarantees superior power handling,
reliability and mechanical stability, placing the
importance of component integrity before
production speed.
CONES & SOFTWARE
All cones and software used by Precision
Devices are made in England from advanced
and highly-optimised materials with very fine
set tolerances in their manufacture. Materials
are selected for properties that include high
strength and longevity, as well as sublime
acoustic performance. Long-fibre designs
provide improved internal damping and extra
longevity, and all models are air-dried for
optimum tonal qualities.
Performance-optimised suspension
materials provide improved linearity and
control. Each and every cone and software
component is carefully inspected prior to
use, which ensures the exact sound quality
will be found throughout the series with
the utmost reliability.
MAGNET ASSEMBLIES
Precision-machined, low-carbon steel plate
sets delivering superior strength, quality
and magnetic qualities along with the
highest grade neodymium and ceramic
magnets ensure superior BL factors and
operating temperature extremes without
loss of flux. Assemblies are FEA-designed
to allow prediction of speaker parameters
and performance at the design stage. Use
of demodulation rings and caps assists
in minimising harmonic distortion, coil-
inductance variation and flux modulation,
while also offering minimised power
compression and assistance with heat
dissipation from the speaker core. This in
turn aids power handling and reliability.

QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP
It’s not just our end products that are world-
class: our production processes are too. Over
the years we’ve made many changes to our
manufacturing practices, all of which were
implemented to ensure our standards are
nothing short of outstanding. We employ
a modular construction process whereby
each and every key stage of construction
is tested and signed off individually. Final
unit quality control takes place in dedicated
test cabins, before the product is given a
serial number that allows us full traceability
in a policy of continuous improvement. The
result is a thoroughly accurate and natural
sound, along with improved reliability through
precisely designed and manufactured
components. These standards, among
others, have helped us build strong, lasting
relationships with our supply chain.

We manufacture many
specialised products
that are not specifically
covered in our core branded product range for some of the
world’s most prestigious audio companies. The Precision
Devices OEM Exclusive line has been conceived to meet
the requirements of large volume, international pro audio
systems manufacturers that require more competitive prices,
faster lead times and direct shipping to their location.
Featuring all new designs and technology such as our
unique Radial Neo motor system. Bass, midrange and high
frequency applications are comprehensively covered.
By utilising the same high quality UK manufactured software
components, our OEM line models remain true to the
PD design DNA of quality, precision craftsmanship and
unrivalled performance.

individually hand-made at our UK factory in
Castleford, West Yorkshire, England. Precision

partners who utilise skills that have been passed down
through generations in the heartland of British engineering

The PD.124NR1 is intended as a high power mid bass driver in multiway systems. The unit can also be used as a dedicated woofer in bass reflex and horn loaded designs. The optimised radial neodymium motor system allows more efficient management of the magnetic flux. Forced air venting and rear aluminium base plate keeps the motor temperature under control and reduces power compression to a minimum. The unit features a 4-inch, high temperature, CCAW voice coil capable of handling 1000 W (AES). The PD.154NR1 exhibits an average sensitivity of 99dB across its working band and will produce an SPL of 126.5 dB in an 45Ltr ported enclosure tuned to 60Hz.

INTERPRETING OUR DATA
POWER RATINGS
We measure all of our drivers according to the A.E.S. standard protocols. Each driver is tested for
2 hours at rated power over the drivers working bandwidth, after which the driver should show no
appreciable signs of damage. Mechanical properties are also taken into consideration when classifying
power rating even though the electrical properties of the voice coil can often exceed the drivers’ listed
power rating.
