ABOUTPRODUCTIONNovolipetsk Steel is NLMK Group’s main production site located in Lipetsk. It is one of the leading manufacturers of flat products and coated steel in Russia.

Production in Lipetsk includes all in-line processes: from raw materials processing to the production of high value-added steel products, which include hot-dip galvanized steel and pre-painted steel. NLMK Group’s Lipetsk site is a leading manufacturer of hot-rolled products (18%) and cold-rolled products (24%).

Hot-dip galvanized steel and pre-painted steel manufactured in Lipetsk are widely used in construction, automotive industry, transport and agricultural engineering, and to produce electrical household appliances.

HOT-ROLLEDSTEELHot-rolled steel is manufactured from slabs, which are heated in continuous furnaces and passed through a series of mill rollers, reduced to the required thickness in hot-rolling mill stands. The end product of hot rolling is flat steel in coils and plates. We use hot-rolled steel for manufacturing cold-rolled coils and other products with high added value at NLMK’s main production site in Lipetsk and at VIZ-Steel. Some commercial hot-rolled coils are supplied for export.

Hot-rolled products are used in machine-building, pipe production (including pipelines designed for operation at low temperatures and under high pressure), in shipbuilding, construction and in other industrial sectors.

NLMK is a key supplier of Faurecia Automotive Development in Togliatti.

Since 2012, NLMK has been supplying cold-rolled steel and hot-rolled pickled tempered steel for manufacturing seat frames for Renault and Nissan cars produced at AVTOVAZ, as well as for cars produced at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga.

For its plant in Togliatti, the international company had to find a Russian manufacturer of steel products that comply with European standards (EN). An important prerequisite was the vendor’s ability to manufacture high-strength low-alloyed rolled steel of such grades as HC380LA and HC420LA, as well as to supply steel in small volumes.

NLMK Group’s long cooperation with Faurecia on the European market was the key reason for NLMK having been selected as supplier.

At present, NLMK supplies the following steel products to Faurecia Automotive Development: high-strength low-alloyed steel, grades HC340LA, HC380LA and HC420LA complying with EN 10268:2013. These grades allow Faurecia Automotive Development to enhance the safety of its seats, making them stronger, and also reduces the weight of products, which complies with modern automotive industry requirements.

NLMK supplies rolled steel to the company via vendors as well as uses an intermediate warehouse in Lipetsk.

NLMK has been the exclusive supplier of steel products for the Indesit refrigerator and washing machine factory in Lipetsk from the moment it opened.

Launched in 1993, the Indesit factory in Lipetsk became the first full-cycle machine-building enterprise in Russia manufacturing European quality household appliances. NLMK supplies hot-rolled pickled tempered, cold-rolled and galvanized steel.

NLMK has been the exclusive supplier of steel products for the Biryusa plant in Krasnoyarsk, a manufacturer of household refrigerators and retail refrigerator equipment.

Founded in 1963, Biryusa produces 26 basic models of household refrigerators and freezers, and 21 models of retail refrigerator equipment. About 2,000 refrigerators come off the plant’s conveyor belt every day. NLMK started to supply steel to Biryusa for refrigerators in 1981.

The Krasnoyarsk-based plant receives hot-rolled pickled tempered, cold-rolled, and galvanized steel. Since 2003, NLMK has been supplying pre-painted steel to the plant, which allowed Biryusa to substitute the imports of such steel with domestic products fully.

Thanks to the company’s experience of working with producers of household appliances, its high-quality metal products and on-time deliveries, NLMK remains one of Biryusa’s key suppliers, despite the geographical distance.

NLMK successfully competes with leading Russian and foreign suppliers of steel products for agricultural engineering. An example of this is many years of cooperation with one of the largest manufacturers of agricultural machinery in the world — Minsk Tractor Works (MTW). Currently MTW is present in over 60 countries, offering more than one hundred models of tractors in more than two hundred assembly configurations for all climatic and operating conditions. The plant’s products account for more than 50% of the CIS market.

Thanks to the high quality of its steel products, strict compliance with delivery dates, operational support on technical issues, NLMK is one of the main suppliers of steel for MTW. NLMK covers about 40% of MTW’s demand for steel.

Hot-rolled, hot-rolled pickled tempered and cold-rolled steel for manufacturing fastening parts, cabin and facing of the tractor body are supplied to the customer. Up to 20% of the steel products from Lipetsk are used to manufacture the tractor cabin.

NLMK is a serial supplier of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus car production plant, delivering hot-rolled, hot-rolled pickled tempered, cold-rolled and galvanized steel according to the Hyundai-Kia Motor Company Global Material Guide 2008.05 standard.

NLMK has been working with Huyndai since the plant opened in Russia in 2010. NLMK has been a serial supplier of steel products that are used for internal body parts of Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio since 2011.

When the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant opened in Saint-Petersburg, the South Korean company faced the problem of finding a supplier capable of providing consistently on-time deliveries of steel products that comply with corporate standards and whose quality is similar in quality to the rolled products imported from South Korea and Europe.

To satisfy the exclusive requirements of Hyundai, NLMK has drawn up regulatory and engineering documentation to ensure that steel products could be produced and certified in accordance with the customer’s corporate standard.

NLMK has organised supplies of steel products, including cold-rolled and galvanized steel of SPRC340 and SGRC340 grades based on IF-steel with high plasticity and enhanced strength characteristics.

Currently, NLMK supplies steel to the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant for manufacturing internal body parts of car models that are popular in Russia.

To ensure on-time deliveries, as well as to receive orders which do not conform to the minimum factory order size, NLMK has an intermediate storage warehouse in Saint Petersburg.

CLEAN AIR IN THE CITIES WHERE WE OPERATENLMK Group is implementing investment projects aimed at reducing its impact on atmospheric air. As a result, the labour conditions at production facilities have improved and a favourable environment has been established around the plants.

Specific emissions at NLMK Group’s plants have been halved in 15 years approaching the level of the best available technologies.

Since 2012, NLMK has been a serial supplier of cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized products for Volkswagen Group Rus.

Volkswagen Group Rus has been producing cars in Kaluga since November 2007. Full cycle production was launched at the plant in October 2009. The plant in Kaluga produces the following models: Volkswagen Tiguan, Volkswagen Polo Sedan and Škoda Rapid. NLMK has been a supplier to Volkswagen since 2010, when Severstal-Gonvarri-Kaluga, a Kaluga-based service center producing billets for stamping, received its first rolled steel from NLMK.

Volkswagen Group Rus had to find a Russian supplier of cold-rolled and galvanized steel that would comply with European standards (EN). Another important criterion was the

ability to supply a broad range of metal products on a regular basis in batches that are not a minimum factory order size.

NLMK supplies rolled steel to the customer every ten days by trucks from the intermediate warehouse. This delivery paradigm offered to the customer solves the problem of a minimum factory order size and, if necessary, allows an efficient and timely delivery of rolled steel.

Currently, hot-dip galvanized steel makes the biggest part of the shipments to the customer. The supplied grades include high-strength low-alloyed rolled steel of HX340LAD grade and high strength steel of HX220YD grade based on IF-steel used to manufacture parts with enhanced strength requirements, for example, in manufacturing spars.

Over the course of many years Constructor has been a leading supplier of warehousing and archiving equipment to the Scandinavian countries.

In 2008, the company opened a Constructor Rus plant in the Leningrad Region and now it is one of the leading manufacturers of warehousing shelving equipment in Russia as well as a supplier of logistic solutions, warehousing and archiving shelves for various industries, e.g. pharmaceutical, chemical, food, engineering, electrical engineering and class A logistic centres, and retail chain distribution centres.

Constructor Rus is one of a few enterprises in the Russian Federation in this industry that supplies warehousing shelving systems to the Russian market that comply with the requirements of applicable European quality standards for finished products.

Therefore, the company’s main requirement for its supplier of steel products is full compliance of the grades and properties of the supplied steel with EN standards.

The company says, “Our commitment to safety includes regular inspections of products for our customers to ensure safety of any warehousing installation for operators during the whole of its service life”.

Since 2009, NLMK has been supplying Constructor Rus with cold-rolled steel, EN 10149 S355MC, size 1.5х319 mm and galvanized steel, EN 10346 S350GD+Z275, size 2.3х272 mm and 2.5х306 mm for the production of shelving systems.

MODEL OF SUSTAINABLE WATER USESince 2007 NLMK Group has reduced its industrial effluents discharge into water basins by over 54 times.Most of its production facilities have ceased any discharge of pollutants completely.

NLMK Group has outperformed the global BAT level in terms of water consumption. The Group’s specific water consumption amounted to 5.2 m3 per tonne of steel while the best global level equals 7 m3.

PRODUCTION WASTE INTO ACTIONThe recycling level exceeds 90% at all NLMK Group’s Russian steelmaking facilities. For example, it is 94% at the Lipetsk site, 92% at the Ural sites and 95% at NLMK-Kaluga.

Over the last decade of Long Products Division the volume of generated waste has reduced significantly due to the active use of waste in the economic turnover. The accumulation of waste ceased completely at the Lipetsk site in 2004. Since then the facility has been processing it.

Mogilevliftmash JSC is one of the leading manufacturers of lift equipment in Eastern Europe. Mogilevliftmash JSC is a brand which has managed to gain trust for its products not only in the Republic of Belarus but far beyond its borders.

The company was founded in 1966. Currently Mogilevliftmash JSC produces over 133 models of lifts, including passenger, freight, hospital and house lifts as well as lift platforms for people with disabilities.

The plant’s products comply with the requirements set out in the Technical Regulation of the Customs Union 011/2011 “Safety of lifts”, Ukraine’s Technical Regulation, and with the requirements set out in the European Directive for lifts No.95/16 ЕС and European Union Directive No.73/23/ЕЕС and 89/336/ЕЕС on safety of electrical equipment.

NLMK entered into its first direct contract for the supply of steel flats with the Belarusian plant in 2006. Since that time NLMK has remained a key supplier of cold-rolled steel for Mogilevliftmash JSC.

During this partnership, more than 139 thousand tonnes of cold-rolled steel products manufactured by NLMK have been supplied to Mogilevliftmash JSC.

Currently, NLMK is providing the plant with cold-rolled and galvanized steel used to manufacture various lift units, parts and components.

Up to 40% of rolled steel from NLMK are used in lift production: cold-rolled products are used for lift cabins ceiling, internal walls, modules, shaft doors and framing on each floor, galvanized steel is used for rear internal walls.

Mogilevliftmash JSC’s share of the Russian market is about 18%.

NLMK’s steel accounts for about 45% of the total steel products used in lift production by Mogilevleftmash JSC.

Consistently high quality of steel, strict observance of delivery schedules, and operational support on technical issues make NLMK a successful competitor to other leading Russian and foreign suppliers to lift equipment manufacturers.
