About BD Power

BD is a Diesel powertrain specialty manufacturer and distribution centre located in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The company presently employs 70 people and the facility covers 30,000 square feet. The original company Valley Fuel Injection Ltd. is celebrating its 32nd year in business. The BD name was introduced in 1989 when the first exhaust brake for Diesel pick up trucks was designed. The company now has 8 specialty divisions that focus on the Diesel Powered chassis components.

Fuel Injection Calibration Department A factory certified Bosch, Delphi, Zexel repair and calibration lab. Mechanical and Electronic controlled fuel pumps and injectors are remanufactured for all Diesel engine applications.

Exhaust Brake Manufacturing Turbo mount style and remote mount air and vacuum actuated butterfly valve castings are designed, assembled and tested. Our Variable Orifice technology leads the industry with its ability to build peak efficiency quickly and continuously.

Electronic Circuit Design & Assembly Department Circuit board design, wire harness assembly, programming and assembly. Products like digital instrumentation, exhaust brake controls, transmission and torque convertor controls are made in this department.

Transmission & Torque ConvertorRemanufacturing & Design BD specializes in Ford, Dodge and GM truck transmissions. No stock rebuilds in this department. Every transmission is redesigned to handle double the amount of factory torque. Complete exchange towing or race transmissions plus valve bodies and accumulator bodies are available. Torque Convertors with custom designed stators, clutches and covers for high power applications are also built.

Vehicle Installation Department Our retail outlet for factory product installation, factory service and dealer training.

Research & Development A team of engineers are on staff designing Diesel turbocharger kits, electronic controls for transmissions, Diesel engine performance tuning files, intake systems, injector designs, exhaust systems, flex plates, short shift kits, engine shut down devices, high rpm devices and many new products.

Administration Department Accounting, claims and warehousing to service our worldwide distribution. 10% of our business is retail, 75% of the company’s total sales is based in the United States of America.

Sales & Marketing Department BD’s Technical sales department is on hand to educate users and dealers in product application as well as field sales and training, brochure and advertising creation, web designs and market leadership.

BD Policies– Subject to change without notice Products manufactured or distributed by BD Diesel Performance, BD Engine Brake Inc. or Valley Fuel Injection Ltd. are guaranteed for terms set out in the warranty statement supplied with each individual product. All warranties are limited to the original purchaser only and bill of sale is proof of warranty start date. BD reserves the right to resolve a warranty claim by either product repair or replacement.

30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee is offered to the original purchaser. Labor, freight or incidental costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.

RMA (Return Material Authorization) claim number must be obtained before any product is returned to BD for warranty consideration. The following information is required to obtain a RMA number before returning product or submitting paperwork:

1. Copy of original invoice to end user customer and distribution outlet showing purchase of product and date of sale;

2. Serial number or date code of product if applicable;3. Vehicle information such as make, model, mileage, drive train, current horsepower

rating, etc.;4. Full description of complaint and what has been done so far;5. Copies (if applicable) of any invoice for replacement product, related parts required for

job (i.e. transmission fluids, service parts), work order or invoice for labor incurred;6. Dyno report for any horsepower restricted products.

RMA and product Serial number or date code number must be on all paperwork and correspondence. Failure to obtain the required information or paperwork will result in delay or denial of any warranty claim. Labor Credit may be given on some products and any accepted claim will be credited based upon BD’s set labor rates/times. BD will advise final times and credits upon completion of claim and labor must be from a facility approved by BD. Serial Numbers must be recorded on the original sales invoice. If not recorded, BD will determine the date-in-service as the date that serial number left the BD warehouse.

Other Expenses such as towing, lodging, food, communication, taxes, levies, fines, freight or any other such inconvenience expense are the sole responsibility of the original purchaser. Misapplication - BD is not responsible for any expenses such as parts or labor for the replacement of any product that has been installed for the incorrect application. Any standard transmission clutch installed in the wrong application such as mismatched horsepower, torque, towing or other such ratings will have the warranty voided on product. Cores are to be returned freight prepaid. Collect or COD shipments will be refused. Call our shipping department to determine the best carrier and correct warehouse location for returns as brokerage or other charges incurred from shipping to an incorrect warehouse will be deducted. Core returns are on a like-for-like basis. Enclose a copy of the original invoice with the core charge billing. Damage to the core due to contamination, mishandling and/or any condition beyond normal wear will have surcharges deducted from credit. Cores must be returned within 1 year of billing date or core charge may not be credited or surcharges will be deducted.

What do I need for an Exhaust brake installation?

Required:- Exhaust brake installation kit.- A/T equipped trucks require controller (AutoLoc, TorqLoc or TowLoc) to engage the torque convertor lock-up clutch during braking. - Modified Downpipe required to fit ‘88-‘93 Dodge trucks ONLY

Optional:- M/T trucks can use optional shifter-mounted switch to activate the brake. - ‘94-’97 12V trucks can upgrade to 60 lb. exhaust springs to increase braking performance.

Remote Mount vs. Turbo Mount?

- Remote mount brakes are used for applications where engine compartment space is a problem and mounting the exhaust brake in the main exhaust system is the only option, or, turbo mount is not available (I.E. Van application or Motorhome). - Turbo Mount brakes mount directly onto (or immediately behind) the turbocharger. These brakes are usually easier to install and have the quickest activation. This is generally the preferred brake to install unless installation room is an issue.

What Dodge torque convertor should I use?

Generally the rule of thumb is:

- 12V trucks and 24V trucks used for towing (up to 450RWHP) – 1070215X*Designed for the average truck owner with a stock or mildly modified engine making up to 450 rear wheel horsepower. This convertor is towing friendly and works well with power upgrades.

- 12V & 24V trucks NOT TOWING! (over 450RWHP) – 1070215LX*Designed for HOT ROD street trucks making more than 450 rear wheel horsepower and do NOT do any regular towing. Very aggressive stator & stall - requires lots of torque to run effectively.

Which Dodge clutch do I need?

- If your customer is looking for a replacement upgrade clutch for regular/light duty applications we recommend the 1030272 for applications up to 400HP. This kit is NOT used for heavy towing. - If your customer has a 5-speed transmission (and tows quite heavy), we recommend upgrading to the 13” clutch kit. 1030276/1030277 kits include a 13” flywheel upgrade to handle the extra torque. - Upgraded 13” kits are also available for 6-speed transmissions. Use the 1030279 for stock or mild power upgrades. Use the 1030274/1030275 for aggressive street use or heavy towing applications.

When do I need gauges?

- Gauges are highly recommended on all applications as the factory instrumentation is limited. Any heavy-duty tow/haul usage should have gauges installed to monitor temperatures and pressures. The X-Monitor is an easy way to monitor exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), turbo boost pressure and automatic transmission fluid temperatures, which are the most common values to monitor.

When do I use an ‘X-Hook’ or ‘boost elbow’?

- X-hook is applied on automatic trucks that have an automatic transmission with the HY-35W Holset turbo.- Boost elbow is applied to automatic and manual transmission equipped trucks with the HX-35W Holset turbo.- The X-Hook or boost elbow both have the same function of delaying the opening of the wastegate to maximize turbo boost pressure without disabling the wastegate.

Why do I need to upgrade the exhaust ?

-The extra power from modules and injectors creates more exhaust pressure. Restrictive exhaust flow can reduce power and drive up EGT levels. High-flow exhaust kits reduce backpressure to allow the turbo to breathe more effectively. Less restrictive flow means cooler exhaust temperatures, quicker turbo spool up and better mileage.

What is the difference between TorqLoc, AutoLoc and TowLoc?

AutoLoc – Maintains convertor lock-up on deceleration. Automatic engagement.TorqLoc - Maintains convertor lock-up on deceleration, has automatic mode and also manual override switch to force convertor lock-up at will. TowLoc – Deluxe drivetrain controller maintains convertor lock-up and allows other drivetrain controls with laptop computer to fine-tune adjustments ‘on-the-fly’.

When do I need a PressureLoc on a Dodge?

- Torque convertor lock-up clutches ‘shudder’ when they are slipping. The PressureLoc kit increases line pressure to the lock-up clutch to reduce/eliminate slippage and shudder. This extra pressure allows the lock-up clutch to hold more torque before slipping. An excellent upgrade for stock transmissions or torque convertors that are used for towing/hauling heavy loads.

What fuel plate do I need?

- Fuel plates are ordered based on the CPL# of the engine. Fuel plates are available in various profiles to make different power improvements. Gains from 10HP - 60HP or more are possible. Fuel plates will increase EGT levels and can add stress to the stock transmission and convertor. Choose plate according to driver usage or contact our sales department for more fitment details. What do I need to order a pump?

- A CPL# and a pump number are both required for all exchange injection pumps. Many of the pump numbers update to newer numbers, so it is critical we get the correct tag number. A core charge is also applicable to all exchange injection pumps. Please contact our sales staff for more details.

What do I need to order injectors?

- A CPL#, model, year, and transmission type are required to fit upgraded injectors. Various injectors are available from 40HP to 165HP depending on application and engine set up. Please contact our sales staff if you require more information. What performance injectors do I use?

- 30HP-40HP injectors are a nice gain in performance and torque. Work well with a plug-in performance module for towing. Gauges and exhaust improvements are suggested. - 50HP-60HP X-injectors are designed for aggressive towing applications and moderate street performance. EGT levels will be higher with these injectors; we highly recommend gauges to monitor temperatures and a high-flow exhaust system to improve air flow. Mild smoke increase. - 90HP XXX-injectors are designed for aggressive street performance and mild competition pulling/racing. Expect more smoke at low boost/speeds.- 130+HP XXX injectors are designed for heavy competition use only.*NOTE* Extreme fueling! Off-highway racing applications only.
