The Double shut-off version is based on an additional cut-off made with a pressure resistant floating ball. This ball is fully encapsulated in EPDM and is located in a housing at the inlet flange of the hydrant. This ball closes the inlet solely through water pressure and thus guarantees double safety during maintenance work in case of pressure being unforeseeably applied at the inlet of the hydrant.

04: Guidance of the operating nut with sophisticated safety interlock. This reliably prevents ejection of the inner trim, should the pressure be unforeseeably applied at the shut-off cone when the hydrant bonnet is dismantled.

08: Outlet claw with special lugs for anchoring the standpipe and securing the connection, ensuring that it won‘t come apart on its own under vibration. For better protection against corrosion, all bayonet surfaces feature a high-quality epoxy coating and the seat is made of stainless steel.

06 & 07 : Triple seal at the operating stem, one O-ring below the collar and two above, for a full protection of the thrust bearing system and a longer life expectancy.A dust guard Prevents the ingress of dust and foreign bodies at the stem.

05: Stem and thrust collar made in one piece in stainless steel for better resistance to axial load and to withstand higher operating torques. Anti-friction washers placed below and above the collar provide for reduced friction torque and protect the coating.

09: A foreign matter deflector is included under the outlet claw in order to prevent the possible ingress of solids inside the tubing of the hydrant.

The double drainage system of the HALIOSTM underground fire hydrant allows a faster emptying of the product in order to protect it from freezing and for a sustainable hygiene.

When the shut-off cone of the hydrant reaches the closed position, the tubular part above the shut-off cone is placed in communication with the two drain orifices to allow the emptying of the upper part of the hydrant through the drainage devices (see figures 1 & 3). The drainage system opens once the shut-off cone is closed.

When the shut-off cone of the hydrant is in the open position, the two guide lugs of the shut-off cone seal the two drainage orifices. This prevents loss of water through the drainage system when the fire hydrant is in operation. (see figures 2 & 4) The drainage system closes before the shut-off cone is open.

The Kv value indicates how much water in m3/h can flow through the product at a temperature of 20 °C and for a pressure loss of 1 bar.

The Kv value of HALIOSTM underground fire hydrant is above the minimum value that is required in the standard DIN EN14339.

QUALITY AND TESTING

Quality control • 100% of HALIOSTM underground fire hydrants produced are tested

according to EN 12266-1.

Testing pressures • Shell tightness: 25 bar at room temperature. • Seat tightness: 17.6 bar at room temperature. The criterion for the tests is «Rate A» according to DIN EN12266-1: no visually detectable leakage for the duration of the test (“zero drops”).

HYDRANT TESTED ACCORDING TO DIN EN12266-1, DIN EN14339, DIN EN1074-6:

CORROSION PROTECTION BASED ON EPOXY COMPOUND

HALIOSTM underground fire hydrants are covered with epoxy coating both internally and externally in a continuous manner. The layer of fusion-bonded epoxy coating is applied by electrostatic process. With a minimum overall thickness of 250 microns minimum, this epoxy coating ensures a complete corrosion protection of high quality. The epoxy powder used for HALIOSTM is approved for use with potable water by the most prestigious institutions worldwide, including UBA and DVGW.

GOOD TO KNO W BEFORE INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

Storage

• The hydrant should preferably be stored under cover. A long storage in extreme weather conditions can cause alterations of the coating and seals.

Assembly in pipe

• Remove the flange cover immediately before the installation.

• As the hydrant is delivered with a built in inlet flange gasket, do not use an extra flange gasket to connect the hydrant onto the network.

• The hydrant must be installed in a vertical position. When connecting the hydrant to the pipe, avoid the transmission of stress from the pipe to the hydrant body.

• Tighten the screws gradually in a star-shaped pattern, respecting the tightening torques.

• Once the hydrant is assembled, the threads of the bolts/rods should be greased with a graphite based waterproof grease (MOLYCOTE or similar) to prevent corrosion and facilitate subsequent dismantling operations.

• An isolation valve must be installed on the pipe upstream of the inlet of the hydrant in order to be able to isolate it from the network for the maintenance work.

• For stability, the duck foot bend must be sufficiently anchored by means of a concrete block or by any other appropriate means.

• A drainage system must be implemented around the drainage devices of the hydrant in order to allow its emptying. It may consist for example of an adequate volume of pebbles or any other appropriate means

Operation

• Each hydrant must be operated in respect of the operating torques given in our IOM manual, by means of a key according to DIN 3323-C.

Before installation, in addition to the information given below, it is important to read the IOM manual, as well as to observe the instructions on the operation of hydrants according to DVGW W331 section 6.
