Quality Galaxy Tufflite is manufactured in strict accordance with AS/NZS 4256 parts 1 & 3: 1994. Conformance Mark;CSI7004. All resins are UV stabilized to provide excellent resistance to UV degradation. If cleaned regularly the sheeting will retain its original bright appearance over many years. Galaxy Tufflite is an ideal cost effective alternative to traditional metal roofing systems. Tufflite has additional reinforcement with the use of a, continues heavy woven glass fibre matt. This is impregnated and cured into the resin matrix, which provides remarkable strength and protection in all directions. Galaxy Tufflite eliminates the requirement to use wire mesh below the sheet as Galaxy Tufflite passes the AS/NZS 4040.4:1996 Resistance to impact (Sandbag) for Sheet Roof Materials, as per the BCA requirement.

Test Reference Number C101104, Contact Galaxy Rooflite Technical Dept for a copy of the test results. The use of Galaxy Tufflite CR or CRFR is a practical advantage that will outlast conventional metal roofing when used in chemically aggressive and corrosive environments where the safety mesh and traditional steel cladding can rapidly deteriorate and be eroded away. Galaxy Tufflite CR takes away the need for safety mesh in corrosive environments. This is because Galaxy Tufflite CR features a unique chemical and corrosion-resistant resin system which is specifically designed for this type of environment.

Twin Skin, Anti Condensation System

OVERVEIW

In today’s environment of conservation, the reduction of energy consumption, the importance of environmentally friendly, cost effective products is ever increasingly recognised.

The savings and benefits in supplying natural daylight in the workplace and in recreational facilities can be maximised at a fraction of the cost of dual glazing with Galaxy Rooflite’s, Twin Skin System. This system provides good, evenly diffused natural light, eliminates condensation, and reduces transmitted heat.

Galaxy Rooflite’s, Twin Skin system uses the fundamental principles of double glazing in an innovative manner suited to the Australian climate; simplicity and ease of installation set it apart from costly double glazed skylights originally designed for cooler climates.

Sports stadiums and multi-purpose halls where condensation quickly forms on the skylight panels due to warm internal air meeting with the cold skylight surface, have utilised the Galaxy Rooflite, Twin Skin Anti Condensation Sky lighting System to solve the problem.

CONDENSATION FACTORS

Condensation will form on any surface having a temperature below the dew point temperature of the air under consideration. The relative humidity (amount of water vapour in the atmosphere) within sports stadiums and heated indoor pool enclosures can change rapidly with large numbers of occupants. At normal ventilation rates, a body of air will absorb moisture from the occupants at the rate of 50 - 60g/person/hour. This may result in the moisture content exceeding that of the external air by about 2g/kg of dry air. Therefore the probability of condensation forming on cooler surfaces increases dramatically.

Independent testing has established that the Galaxy Rooflite’s, Twin Skin Anti Condensation System displays superior thermal properties to conventional single sheet skylighting systems. This means increased insulation properties.

TWIN SKIN BENEFITS

• Eliminates condensation. • Great energy savings. • Cost Effective. • Effective thermal insulation.

INSTALLATION

The following installation procedures are recommended by the product manufacturers —Galaxy Rooflite Australia Pty Ltd.

These recommendations closely follow the Australian Standard: Design and installation of Sheet Roof and Wall Cladding, Part 3: Plastic. AS 1562.3-2006 Where wire safety mesh is incorporated under the fibreglass sheeting and over a purlin, a protective purlin strip must be installed to prevent fracturing. Galaxy Rooflite manufacture a 65 mm wide self adhesive protective fibreglass strip which, when viewed from below is not visible.

In roofing applications, fixings shall be fitted through the crest of any profile. Oversize screw holes from 10 mm up to 15 mm must be drilled at all points of fixing. Only 32 mm 'Weatherlok' seals should be used. These seals are large enough to cover the oversize hole and are sufficiently flexible to contour to any corrugation (or rib shape) when medium pressure is applied. Medium pressure means that the 'Weatherlok' seal is contoured to the shape of the corrugation (or rib shape), with the rib or corrugation retaining its shape without any sign of buckling or crushing.

Contractors must make sure that the fixing is located in the centre of the oversize hole, or the benefit of the larger hole is lost. To ensure accuracy, Galaxy Rooflite recommends the following:

1. Fasten fibreglass sheeting in the same manner as metal but with side laps over the metal on both sides.

2. When Job is completed, remove fasteners on fibreglass section. 3. Using the existing screw hole as a guide, drill an oversize hole, swap neoprene washer (used in step

1) with 'Weatherlok' seal and reinstall the fastener.

• Alternatively, Galaxy recommends the use of Fibreglass Teks which drill an oversize hole as they fix.

Galaxy Rooflite design and recommend the fibreglass sheets to be installed on top of metal roofing on both sides. The sheet rib can still go over and under when fibreglass sheets are installed side by side.

Where fibreglass sheets are end lapped including those with dissimilar materials, two lines of Lapseal Tape or a flexible sealant shall be placed across the full width of sheet. Each strip is placed approximately 150 mm apart with one line located 25 mm from the end of the fibreglass sheet. Galaxy recommends the use of 25 mm Lapseal Tape as silicone sealants can harden and cure due to exposure to daylight. The over-lapping sheets then become locked together as one sheet, effectively stopping movement between the sheets, and possibly causing buckling. With decking profiles install Lapseal Tape in the tray only or use a flexible sealant.

Fibreglass sheeting is not easily reshaped after manufacture, and will require special weather seals to be provided at all flashing and capping points. Typically, a foam closure strip matching the profile of the fibreglass sheet should be bonded to the pans or valleys with a flexible weatherproof sealant. Ideally it should be fitted at least 100 mm behind the turn down of the flashing.

Galaxy Rooflite fibreglass sheeting is a non-trafficable material. Sheets should be handled with care to avoid damage to the surface coating. Guarantees will not apply to sheeting that has been damaged in handling, or mechanical damage due to foot traffic.

The Installation instructions should be strictly adhered to as Galaxy Rooflite Australia Pty Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for consequent leakage problems, caused by sheets buckling or "ocean waving".

Rooflite GelCoat Ultratec Topclad Fibreglass is used when there is a requirement for a Solid Sheet look, when the characteristics of a composite product combined with the numerous roofing profiles giving the architect limitless options for both colour on top and below to give it a solid sheet appearance. The Gel Coat is tinted on top and the bottom colour is mixed into the base resin for a different colour below giving it the appearance of a steel sheet but without the limitations. When combined with Vinyl Ester resin it is the perfect replacement for Aluminum roofing in highly corrosive environments. We recommend using the woven matt Tufflite for jobs where the safety mesh is unable to be used due to the corrosive environments but the need for a solid sheet look is required.

Design Considerations Glass reinforced polyester is required to be supported on both edges when installed in accordance with AS/NZS1562.3-2006, it should be installed in single sheets supported by the main roofing material. Multiple sheets can be used with extra consideration for side lapping required. Contact the Galaxy Rooflite Technical Department on 02 9609 5100 or Email; [email protected]

The most common roof lapping method is a single roof light fitted from under the ridge down to the gutter.

The second most common roof lapping method is a single roof l ight f itted from under the ridge to a purlin support that is higher than the gutter .

Walking & Standing on Roofs

AS/NZS 1562.3-2006 Design and Installation of Sheet Roof and Wall Cladding states in section 2.4.4.1

Plastic Roofing is considered, non- trafficable. Where it is necessary to walk on plastic sheets, roof ladders or walk boards shall be provided.

When it is necessary to walk on plastic roof sheeting when installed, the owner of the building must comply with one or more of the following requirements.

• Provide roof ladders or walk boards as temporary crossing s over GRP sheeting. • Provide properly constructed walkways or walk boards over the GRP sheeting if located in an area

used as an access way or point. • Provide notices at access points in accordance with statutory regulations warning persons not to step

onto plastic roofing materials. • Use red weather lock washers on all fixings to help highlight plastic roofing material to all persons

accessing the roof area at any time.

Safety Mesh Requirements

Safety Mesh should be fitted to protect persons accidently falling through GRP sheeting. Safety mesh must be fitted in accordance with AS/NZS 1562.3-2006, unless exempted by clause 2.4.3.2 of the stated standard. Safety mesh should be used under fibreglass roofing in conjunction with a 65mm wide fibreglass protection strip. This should be installed over the safety mesh to avoid fracturing of the underside of the sheeting.

Note; Galaxy 3660gsm TuffLite passes AS 4040.4-2006 Resistance to impact (sandbag) - Sheet Roof materials.

Curved Roof Radius

The minimum curved roof radius for Corrugated or Trimdek profile in 2400gsm is 4 metres.

Profile Enquiry

To help in providing the correct roofing profile for your project, please supply Galaxy Rooflite with the details, in millimetres, of your profile as illustrated above.

Handling and Storage

When GRP sheeting is handled or loaded onto a roof, a spreader bar with fabric slings should be used for large quantities. If small quantities of sheets are required they should be handled individually, being careful not to bend or distort the sheets. GRP sheets should be handled with care to avoid damage. Guarantees will not apply to sheeting that has been damaged in handling, or mechanical damage.

Storage of Bundle Packs

Bundles should be stored well clear of the ground in an area well protected from direct sunlight and moisture with a cover providing complete protection from sunlight and rain as well as being ventilated. Bundles should be strapped and protected from movement by the wind.

Bundles that become wet must be separated and taken out of direct sun light. Each sheet should be wiped dry before re stacking.

Note; Damage can occur if bundles are wet and left in situ and the above statement is neglected.

Installation & Weatherproofing Instruction The following installation instructions are recommended by the product manufacturers- Galaxy Rooflite Pty

Ltd. These recommendations closely follow the Australian Standard: Design and Installation of Sheet Roof and

Wall Cladding, Part 3: Plastic. AS 1562.3-2006

Inspection Prior to fixing, the installer should undertake the following:

• Check that the purlins and girts are in plane and that the purlins are not canting.

• Check the spacing of purlins or girts are relative to the specification or the maximum span permissible from the

wind load span chart for the particular series and profile of FRP sheet being used against the wind load

specified by the engineer.

• Check that, where required, safety mesh has been installed and that FRP protector purlin strips have been

installed over safety mesh at all fixing points.

• Check that the sheeting supplied is the correct or equivalent product as specified, such as the class, series,

profile, cover width and colour.

Installation Where possible the FRP sheet should be installed concurrently with the main cladding material. Where this is

not possible the opening or temporary sheet being installed must be checked to ensure the correct opening

cover width dimension has been provided.

The sheet should be laid overlapping the main cladding on both edges. All fixing holes must be predrilled

oversize as specified for the sheet length and fastener being used. Fasteners must be fitted with approved

35mm red weather seal; roof washers. Fixings should be tightened to ensure a weatherproof seal but they

must not be over tightened. This could result in distortion or fracture of the FRP sheet and cause a restriction

of natural expansion and contraction of the sheet.

Where wire safety mesh is incorporated under the fibreglass sheeting and over a purlin, a protective purlin

strip must be installed to prevent fracturing. Galaxy Rooflite manufacture a 65 mm wide self adhesive

fibreglass strip which, when viewed from below is not visible.

Weatherproofing End Laps Where permitted, all end laps to similar or dissimilar materials must be sealed by the provision of two lines of

compressive foam tape strips placed 150mm apart and for the full width of the FRP sheet with one line 25mm

from the end of the FRP sheet. Care should be taken to ensure the seal is not too thick which would result in a

large gap at the joint. Galaxy Rooflite recommends the use of 25 mm compressive foam tape as silicone

sealants will harden and cure. This could then cause the over-lapping sheets to become locked together as

one sheet, effectively inhibiting free expansion and contraction between the sheets, and could possibly

causing buckling. With decking profiles install compressive foam tape in the tray only and seal ribs with a non

hardening silicone.

Where lapping is required take particular note of the following situations:

• Low roof pitch

• Sheet class exceeding 2400 gsm

• High wind area

• Roof flooding likely at any time.

Page 50: Product Booklet final14 - Galaxy Rooflite...Rooflite SC Fibreglass Product Description Rooflite SC Fibreglass is a high quality general purpose FRP that has been the cornerstone of

The edges of the under lapping sheet should be cut back as shown.

Special Weatherproofing Situations

Special care should be taken to provide a weatherproof seal in areas where water can remain on the roof and

can be blown or sucked over the ribs or under the flashings.FRP sheet is unable to be formed to the intricate

shapes of metal and may require a special seal to be fitted on the side overlap joints, or the use of double laps

at the edges. The following situations may allow the penetration of water through side-laps in some

circumstances.

• Low pitched roofs particularly where high winds are prevalent.

• At the high point of the roof particularly if the roof finishes at the parapet or a raised construction where blown

water can build up and flood the roof profile.

• Roofs subject to a high rate of movement on large roof expanses where water can build up on the roof in

some situations. In these situations, consider double lapping at overlaps, special side flashing or use of

sealants should be considered.

Edge Overlapping

Fibre Reinforced Polyester (FRP) industrial roofing materials are generally designed to match the profile and

cover width of the main roof and cladding products to be used on any project. They are however unable to be

manufactured to the same tight radius as metal due to the processes involved.

Page 51: Product Booklet final14 - Galaxy Rooflite...Rooflite SC Fibreglass Product Description Rooflite SC Fibreglass is a high quality general purpose FRP that has been the cornerstone of

Edge Installation

Galaxy Rooflite Industrial FRP sheet is designed to lap over, and be supported by the main roofing material on

both edges. The following drawings show a typical example of a common profile.

Note: All profiles should be supported at both edges.

Note: The FRP sheet has been designed to also be installed over and under when fibreglass sheets are installed concurrently.

Closure Strips

Fibreglass sheeting cannot be reshaped after manufacture, and will require special weather seals to be

provided at all flashing and capping points. Typically, a foam closure strip matching the profile of the fibreglass

sheet should be bonded to the pans or valleys with a flexible weatherproof sealant. Ideally it should be fitted at

least 100 mm behind the turn down of the flashing. Also called Eave Fillers, they are used to seal both the top

and bottom of various profiles against the entry of water, dust, or vermin at all flashing points and gutters. This

is the only recommended method of providing a waterproof seal under normal flashings. Refer to the direction

for Parapet Flashing and Eaves Closure located within this section.

Page 52: Product Booklet final14 - Galaxy Rooflite...Rooflite SC Fibreglass Product Description Rooflite SC Fibreglass is a high quality general purpose FRP that has been the cornerstone of

Bird, Vermin and Dust Proofing

To assist in preventing the entry of birds, vermin and dust, closure strips can be fitted under the FRP sheet at

a gutter, roof step or similar location.

The closure strips should be fitted at the position of the fixing screw to the main support beams.

Flashing Points

Weatherproofing shall be provided at all flashing points under the normal flashing by the fitting of a foam

closure strip to match the profile being used. Closure strips should be sealed to the sheet with an appropriate

silicone sealant. Refer to the Parapet Flashing and Eave Closure diagrams.

Fixing Procedure Fixing Components Fasteners Fasteners should be installed in the quantity, size and fixing intervals as recommended for the series and

profile of the sheet with wind loads not exceeding 1Kpa. For wind loads in excess of 1Kpa enquiries should be

made to the Galaxy Rooflite Technical department.

When installed in conjunction with metal sheets, allowances must be made for the differing expansion rates of

the two materials. Holes must be predrilled into the FRP sheet at all fixing points. Note that if fasteners are

over tightened and the weather lock washers are crushed, sheets may distort or fracture. In roofing

applications fixings should be fitted through the crest of any profile. Oversize screw holes from 10 mm up to 15

mm must be drilled at all points of fixing. Only 32 mm red 'Weatherlok' seals should be used. These seals are

large enough to cover the oversize hole and are sufficiently flexible to contour to any corrugation (or rib) when

medium pressure is applied. Medium pressure means that the 'Weatherlok' seal is contoured to the shape of

the corrugation (or rib), but rib or corrugation must retain its shape without any sign of buckling.

Galaxy Rooflite recommends the use of Fibreglass Teks or Clearfix industrial fasteners which drill an oversize

hole as they fix.

Washers All fixing holes must be waterproofed with the use of a sealing washer installed under the head of the fixing

screw or rivet. In normal applications an approved 32mm diameter red weather seal washer will be suitable.

The washer should be able to form the shape of the rib on the profile; the washer must also be in firm contact

around the outside edge of the sheet when the fixing screw is tightened.

Note: Do not over-tighten fasteners, this will deform the washer and or sheet.

Page 54: Product Booklet final14 - Galaxy Rooflite...Rooflite SC Fibreglass Product Description Rooflite SC Fibreglass is a high quality general purpose FRP that has been the cornerstone of

Side Lap Screw Fasteners Side lap fasteners are necessary to ensure a waterproof lap, and must be located at a maximum 600mm

centres. Pre-drilling of only the FRP sheet is essential.

Side Lap Screw Fasteners

In certain applications where two FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic ) sheets are side-lapped, a bulb-type or similar

rivet must be used in place of a screw, as differing thermal expansion are no longer a concern. Ensure that in

these situations reference is made to the Galaxy Rooflite Technical Department. Side-lap fasteners should be

installed as per Galaxy Rooflite specifications.

Inspection of the Installed FRP sheet

• No cracks, damage or low spots have occurred due to over tightening of the fasteners. • No damage has occurred due to impact of dropped articles. • No damage has occurred due to accidental foot traffic. • Ensure that expansion holes are oversized as specified for the sheet length and the correct length and

type of fastener has been used. • There are no gaps left at side or the end laps of the FRP sheet. • Remove all debris from the roofing material. • Install safety signage as per the requirement in the Australian Standard AS 1562.3-2006

Maintenance of FRP sheeting

While natural rain cycles provide a self cleaning action, a low degree roof pitch or local environmental air quality can promote an accumulation of dirt and debris on both sides of the sheet.

Where dirt accumulation has occurred and has become a problem. Regular cleaning with soapy water and a broom and running water will clean off most types of natural dirt build up and keep your sky lights working at the optimum light transmission.

In older installations, where light transmission levels can no longer be determined. The FRP sheeting should be replaced with a progressive replacement program.

Note: The above instructions must be strictly adhered to; Galaxy Rooflite Pty Ltd cannot accept any responsibility for consequent leakage problems, caused by sheets buckling or "ocean waving".

Hail Resistance

Galaxy Rooflite warrant series 2400 (and upwards) standard grade industrial fibreglass sheeting against hail damage up to 20mm in diameter accompanied by winds up to 100 km/hr for 5 years. Warranty Plus sheeting is covered for 25 years.
