WINTERTON RECYCLERS Thank you to those who have got in touch and offered to help try to get our scheme running in the Village. If you haven’t heard from us yet – we haven’t forgotten you. It’s just taking time trying to work out the logistics of how we can put the ideas into practice. We have managed to organise a printer ink-jet cartridge recycling scheme. At present, we can accept only ink-jet cartridges from HP, Dell or Canon. We have pre-paid envelopes for you to drop them into and send them off and our registered Charity – Winterton Parish Church - get £1 for every cartridge. We’ll keep you updated from time to time as to how much has been earned. Envelopes are available in the Church, Post Office, Chip Shop or from Janet Rowe at 5 Sandpiper Court. Other ideas currently in the planning stage are to collect and re-distribute jam-jars and flower pots. Any other ideas would be very welcome! If you think you’d like to be involved, please call Bev on 394954 .
BEWARE – Great Yarmouth have this week fined 5 people a total of over £400 for allowing their dogs to foul and not clearing up afterwards!!!
Winterton(Norfolk)Trust Fund It is the time of year when we are again considering applications for assistance with heating bills. If you are on Income Support or Pension Credit you might be eligible for a grant towards the cost of your Winter Fuel. Forms are available from the Post Office, School, Parish Church or direct from the Secretary, Mrs Valerie Blake, Providence House, North Market Road. All completed applications to be received by the Secretary by Saturday 20 November. No late applications can be considered. Don't forget that the Trust might also be able to help towards the cost of school trips or an emergency loan. For further details please contact either Fr.Adrian Ling on 393227 or the Secretary on 393749.

Members of the In Bloom Team attended the presentation evening of the annual Great Yarmouth In Bloom Competition and were presented with a Silver Gilt Award in the Best Village Category. We were complimented on the standard we achieved in spite of the thefts and damage we suffered earlier in the year. Great Yarmouth in Bloom is an annual event that has many categories from hanging baskets, small gardens, large gardens, water features, best lawns, best commercial premises, and more. If you have a lovely garden then why not enter. You never know you might win. Winter planting has been completed throughout the village and we are looking forward to a wonderful, colourful display in the spring. A great deal of hard work goes into keeping the village greens and various other areas looking as their best, and this year in particular we have been very much heartened by the lovely comments and donations we have received. After the thefts and damage many of the In Bloomers were very downhearted but we have carried on and have been rewarded for our efforts. Thanks should go to all the In Bloom Team, no matter how large or small their contribution. As the saying goes, Every Little Helps. New members are always welcome. We are a very friendly group who not only enjoy gardening but who also enjoy the social side of being an In Bloomer.

A message from the Caister and Coastal
Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team
Now that the weather is changing please be aware of the security of your oil supply. Thefts from oil tanks are on the increase – make sure your expensive oil supply is secure • Position your oil tank to allow maximum view from your property – this may discourage passing thieves. • Use control switches to stop the flow of oil when the tank is not in use. • Use good quality padlocks, close shackle are often best, to secure your tank. • Buy an oil level gauge which will sound an alarm if the oil level in your tank suddenly drops or falls below a quarter full. • Use security lights to make the property a less attractive target for thieves.

WINTERTON ON SEA PARISH COUNCIL
Fifteen residents were welcomed to the Parish Council meeting which took place on Thursday 21 October 2010 in the Village Hall. The Chairman thanked Mrs Pamela Winter for her services over the past 7 years as Clerk to the Parish Council and presented her with a gift. He also welcomed Ms Gill Lack as the new Clerk. Public Discussion: A resident stated that the oil syndicate at Hemsby had now closed its membership and requested that a note be put in the Newsletter to this effect and requesting information about any other local syndicate. A resident asked if any response had been received from the Energy Company regarding the running of gas into the village. It had previously been reported that the Energy Company would canvass residents on this and the Clerk will follow this up and report back at the next meeting. Cllr Weymouth requested that cold calling in the village be reported to the clerk as, at present, only George Beck Road and Ackland Close are prospective “No Cold Calling” zones. This should be highlighted in the Newsletter along with care about potential telephone or “door to door” scams with a reminder that the elderly be especially vigilant. It was noted that Winmer Avenue had again flooded in the recent heavy rain since the gully is not working properly. The Clerk is to report incidents of flooding to NCC. Cllr Shrimplin reported that NCC are hoping to sign a new 10 year lease with the Bowls Club with a 5 year rent review. The following Planning Applications and Decisions were reviewed: 06/10/0574/F. Single storey rear extension. Burleigh House, Back Path It was resolved to approve this application. 06/10/0558/F. Erection of detached dwelling. 2 Hillside Cottages, North Market Road It was noted that this was the 4th application received. It was resolved to reject this planning application on the previously stated grounds, ie that the development is in a Conservation and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; there are problems with access; there is a lack of passing provision. A new objection was raised that it is a building within a garden. 06/10/0617/F. Playing Field Caravan. Cricket Club. It was resolved to approve this application with the proviso that the siting of the caravan be reviewed. Planning Decisions 06/10/0482/F. 54 Bulmer Lane. Demolish existing garage and erection of new garage - GYBC approved . 06/10/0504/F. Fishermans Return Public House. Proposed new dwelling and holiday cottage. GYBC Approved ( awaiting formal confirmation).

COASTAL VILLAGES PRACTICE NEWS
A new Doctor - Dr Singh - will be starting at
the Hemsby Practice on 1 November.
There is still a serious problem with people
booking appointments and then just not
turning up and not bothering to cancel, so
wasting precious time when Practitioners
could be seeing other patients. In
September 31 appointments were missed
by Winterton residents. Please ensure you
call the Surgery to let them know if you no
longer need or cannot keep your
appointment.
ARE YOU LOOKING AFTER A RELATIVE, FRIEND OR
NEIGHBOUR WHO RELIES ON YOU FOR HELP WITH
THEIR DAILY LIVING BECAUSE OF PHYSICAL OR
MENTAL HEALTH INCAPACITY, ILLNESS, AGE
RELATED FRAILTY OR DUE TO ALCOHOL OR OTHER
SUBSTANCE DEPENDENCY?
IF YES PLEASE READ ON
If someone relies on you for help with daily
living you are a CARER. You may not have
thought of yourself as a Carer before as
there is often confusion between care
workers and carers. Carers are those who
carry out their caring role on an informal,
unpaid basis, and who often care for
someone up to 24 hours a day. Carers can
often become exhausted or ill because they
do not know of the help that is available. If
you are a Carer, or know someone who is,
or even recognise that someone you know
is likely to need your support in future there is
help available to you. There are many
organisations who can help with support or
information including Age UK, The Norfolk
Carers Helpline, Dial, and many more. There is also a Carers Support Worker who
can be contacted through
the Coastal Villages Practice.
As a Carer you are entitled to an
assessment of your needs and the Carers
Support Worker can carry out this
assessment and provide you with
information and support, together with
advice on benefits such as Attendance
Allowance, Carers Allowance, and also help
you access services you might need.
Help is available.
You just need to know where to find it.
