June 6th & 7th, 2015

Welcome!

We’ve been waiting for you! Our mission at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is to proclaim Christ’s Abundant Love. We are called to reach out to persons of all ages and life situations with Christ’s own hospitality and acceptance, to invite you to be our companion on the spiritual journey as we discover together the ways that Christ is offering hope, healing, and a renewed sense of meaning for our lives.

If you are not a member, we would love to talk to you about our ministry. We invite you to talk to one of our pastors or stop at the Welcome Center near the church entrance.

May your worship experience here at St. Mark’s draw you closer to Christ and His Abundant Love!

Today’s WORSHIP FOCUS

What We Hear

The true leader of the community of faith is God. In this weekend's readings, we discover impulses that resisted and rejected God's good leadership and vision - impulses that may mirror our own challenges in seeking and following God's vision for our own lives.

The Season after Pentecost is a time to reflect on God's transforming presence, and this week's scriptures testify to a God who longs to lead us and all creation into wholeness and peace.

Next Week’s WORSHIP FOCUS

What We Perceive

Our semi continuous reading from 1 Samuel focuses on the story of the call and anointing of David. It is time to replace Saul with a new king. Who will this be?

As people of faith, we are often called upon to trust in things that are beyond ordinary means of seeing.

While this often means trusting in a God who moves in invisible and mysterious ways, we are also invited to look beyond appearance and see the potential that God sees in all of us. What are some things God has helped you to see in your life?

Our preacher for next week will be David Jensen, the President and COO of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.

Nursing the Spirit: Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month Myasthenia Gravis (pronounced My-as-theen-ee-a Grav-us) comes from the Greek and Latin words meaning "grave muscular weakness." The most common form of MG is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups. The prevalence of MG in the United States is estimated to be about 20/100,000 population. Myasthenia Gravis occurs in all races, both genders, and at any age. MG is not thought to be directly inherited nor is it contagious. Common symptoms can include:

A drooping eyelid

Blurred or double vision

Slurred speech

Difficulty chewing and swallowing

Weakness in the arms and legs

Chronic muscle fatigue

Difficulty breathing

For more information on MG, speak with your health care professional and visit: www.myasthenia.org

Financial Update Coming soon...St. Mark's is adding an online giving option to our website in addition to our current electronic giving. We will be utilizing PayPal for spontaneous giving. If you are not already signed up for Electronic Giving, please contact the Church Office, you can sign-up, edit, or cancel your giving at any time. Please utilize one of these options to keep up on your giving if you are away for the summer. There will be a small fee to cover the cost of the PayPal service, but our regular Electronic Giving is always free. We will provide more information in the weeks to come.

“More on 34” What’s that? We’re planning a drive along “More on 34” on Saturday, June 20th. This is a garage sale/rummage sale along Route 34, which begins in Yorkville and goes as far as Galesburg. We will seek “treasures,” stop for lunch and visit with each other as we drive a portion of the route. Check out the website: moreon34.org to view photos and other details. We will drive in small groups and are asking you to consider being a driver. Room in vehicle for new “treasures” is helpful. We will gather at St. Mark’s parking lot at 8am, leave at 8:30am, and return around 5pm. The number of miles of our trip will depend on the number of stops of we make. Call or email Deb Friend ([email protected]) or Ginny Pavesich ([email protected]) with questions. Please sign-up at the Welcome Center.
