    Procedures to be followed in the case of flooding at residences

    Since the situation of flooding has caused some concerns to people of Bangkok in generalso preparedness to embrace the situation could prevent and alleviate damages.

    Preparations Prior to the Flooding1. Consult the past data of flooding in the area of your residence as well as those

    neighboring areas so as to assess potential development of the flooding situations and prepareappropriate measures accordingly.

    2. Plan evacuation procedures and chart the directions for the evacuation.

    3. Be equipped with supplies of communication gears, spare batteries for mobile phones,handy torch light with batteries, etc.

    4. Be equipped with several types of materials to seal certain parts of the house e.g. sandbags, plastic sheets, planks, silicone glue.

    5. Move vehicles to high level ground.

    6. Move belongings to higher level. For large size items, blocks of brick or wood should beutilized to raise the level of those items.

    7. Record telephone numbers for emergency.

    8. Be equipped with relief bags containing of dry food and necessary personal medicineswith the supply of at least 3 days in case the evacuation is necessary.

    9. Store valuable belongings at the safe places with a record of inventories and photos of those belongings.

    10. Instruct youngsters, in particular, to refrain from handling or touching electricalappliances, to report to meeting places in the case of missing.

    Procedures during the Flooding

    1. When residing at home

    1.1 Turn off completely the gas valves, switch off supplies of electricity, turn off electrical appliances and refrain from handling or touching electrical appliances.

    1.2 Be watchful of all types of dangerous reptiles.

    1.3 Take precautions when moving around the house since the floor or walkway

    could be slippery and sharpened objects could float along the flood.1.4 Refrain from consuming food affected by the flood.

    2. When staying out of home

    2.1 Refrain from walking along the path of flood since the torrent could endangersafety conditions. If necessary, be accompanied and guided by a stick of wood which could also actas a gauge for flood level.

    2.2 Refrain from driving through flooded areas upon which some of those couldimpose risks of being drowned and life threatening.

    2.3 Refrain from touching electrical appliances, electrical wires and electrical postssince all of these items could have leakages of electricity.
