1 Reloading RGA Factory Default Configuration• First of all, I advice to reboot the laptop before doing an RGA Scan. RGA Server installed by MKS Software

use to hung up while the laptop is hibernated.

• When login, use operatorvc user. All needed applications are available in the desktop.

1.1 Configuration of DHCPThis steps are needed for ethernet communications, if you are using serial cable you should jump tothe next section (Loading RGA Defaults).

• DHCP configuration is used to communicate with any RGA withoug modifying your CELLS laptop config-uration; so it is assumed that your laptop is configured to get an IP address using DHCP. If you are not sureabout this issue then crosscheck it first,.

• With ethernet unplug, launch the tftp32 application. The application should be available in your Desktop orin the Start Menu (Inicio)

If it is not the case, the installer can be found at:

http://www.cells.es/Intranet/Divisions/Computing/Controls/Help/Vacuum/tftpd32

• To communicate with a test/laboratory equipment the configuration should match exactly what is shown inthe image. If you have to modify a previous one don’t forget to press the SAVE button after typing the newvalues.

• Remember to clean up any previous connections stored in the program:

WARNING: DO NOT CLOSE TDFTPD32 UNTIL YOU FINNISH YOUR RGA SCAN

1.2 Loading RGA Defaults• Unplug the device power unit and plug it again.

• Press the RESET button

• And then press PRESET button; keep it pressed during 20 seconds until the STATUS led blinks a couple oftimes.

• If the STATUS doesn’t blink, unplug/replug the device and repeat the previous steps.

• If the STATUS blink two times, then the default configuration is loaded.

• Connect the laptop using a cross-over ethernet cable (a Grey cable with Yellow connectors at both sides)

• Unplug the RGA device power unit and plug it again.

• Wait 1 minute ...

– during this time the Network Icon of the Laptop will change from this shape:

– to this one:

Page 4: Procedure to Configure an MKS Residual Gas Analyzer

ALBA Project Document No: Page: 4 of 11

CCD-GDVC-OP-0001 Rev. No.: 2.1

• To see if the connection succeds, you have to wait until the Network Icon in the laptop stops moving; therecould be several retries.

• The RGA device should appear in the RGA Device Manager panel; if it doesn’t appear you should repeatthe reset/preset/unplug/replug process.

• When closing the application you will get this menu, in which you have to select exclusive access for allinstruments:

• Now you should be able to open the device from ProcessEye, create a new connection an perform anEasyView RGA scan.

NOTE

Even if the device appears in red color in the RGA device manager, it should be accessible fromProcessEye.

But sometimes the RGA manager said that it was needed to download a new program to the device. Ifthat’s your case, DON’T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING, just do a reboot (unplug power / plug power)and it solves the problem.

1.3 Configuring a new connection in Process Eye• ProcessEye allows to add a new IP to connect manually:

• The IP to be set will be the one identified in Chapter 1 (the example shows the IP for Vacuum Lab devices)

• If the device is detected, it will appear in the following screen. If the device doesn’t appear under the IP, thenyou will have to execute the RGA Device Manager Troubleshooting.

• After you select your device you will have to close Process Eye and open it again.

• After you restart ProcessEye the device should appear in the bottom of the screen.

2 Changing the RGA IP Address• The best method for forcing communication with new/test devices is loading RGA configuration defaults.

• Use a new IP instead of defaults when you want to setup an RGA in its permanent location.

• IP’s for all permanent RGA’s are listed at the end of this document.

2.1 Using the RGA Device Manager to change the IP address of a device• You can enter a new address manually:

• For test/lab units it is recommended to use the default values: IP = 192.168.0.250; Mask = 255.255.252.0

2.2 Using RGA Device Manager Troubleshooting to force the detection of a new device.• It will be needed with Serial devices or some devices that cannot be connected even after reloading defaults.

• If you don’t detect the device, you can follow the troubleshooting

• Introduce RGA serial number

Page 7: Procedure to Configure an MKS Residual Gas Analyzer

ALBA Project Document No: Page: 7 of 11

CCD-GDVC-OP-0001 Rev. No.: 2.1

• Introduce the IP of the device. Use 192.168.0.250 for test/laboratory equipments or, if configuring the deviceto be permanently installed, the IP detailed in appendix 1.

• Check if STATUS led is blinking

• The RGA will be restarted and an error could appear when finnishing the process; don’t care.

• Launch ProcessEye and try to connect directly to the device.

• If didn’t worked, you could need to unplug/replug the ethernet cable before opening RGA Device Manageragain.

• If none of these operations work you can try:

– Detect the RGA using the RGA Device Manager Troubleshooting.

– Detect the RGA using ProcessEye->Instruments->AddConnection

– Create a trouble ticket in the Controls queue at http://rt.cells.es.

3 TroubleshootingBefore proceeding with other operations, ask yourself this questions:

Is the laptop configured to use DHCP?

Did you delete all previous connections in tftp before proceeding?

Did you restarted the RGA after configuring tftpd?

unplug and plug again the power unit

If the ProcessEye applications hungs or none of these procedures worked, try this:

• Open StartMenu -> MKS RGA Software ->Tools -> AdministrativeSetup

Page 9: Procedure to Configure an MKS Residual Gas Analyzer

CCD-GDVC-OP-0001 Rev. No.: 2.1

• Enter Yes/Yes/Next/Next ... Select COM1 as serial line ... Search RGA’s on any Network ... Yes/Next/Finish

• Unplug the ethernet and open ProcessEye.

• Go to Instruments -> Connections, select each IP and click RemoveConnection

• Plug the ethernet and try again to connect, and if fails:

– Reload RGA default configurations.

– Unplug/replug the RGA; run RGA Device Manager

– If fails, Run RGA troubleshooting.

– If fails, ProcessEye->Instruments->Connections->AddConnection

– If fails, Controls ticket at https://rt.cells.es
