PROCEDURE OF EID PRAYERS

It was a practice of The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) to recite Takbeeraat (praising Allah)

at this time. For Eid-ul-Fitr, these Takbeeraat are recited from Fajr till Eid prayer. For Eid-ul-

Adha, the Takbeeraat are recited after prayers from the Fajr prayer of 9th of Dhul-Hijjah (the

day before Eid) to Asr prayer of 13th of Dhul-Hijjah (3rd day after Eid).

Transliteration: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar La-ilaaha Illallah Wallahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Wa-lillahil hamd

Translation: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, There is no Deity but Allah, Allah is the Greatest,

Allah is the Greatest, and all praise is due to Him

PROCEDURE OF EID PRAYERS

1. Eid prayer can only be offered in congregation, not alone.

2. Eid prayer must be offered before Solar noon (Fiqh Ahmadiyya, page 178)

3. There is no Azaan or Iqamah for Eid prayer.

4. In the first rakat, after reciting Thanaa and before Ta’awwuz and Surah al-Fatihah, the Imam

should say 7 more Takbeeraat out loud.

5. The Imam and the followers should raise their hands to their ears and drop them each time.

6. After the Takbeeraat, the Imam should recite Surah al-Fatihah and a portion of the Holy Qur’an

out loud. Then, he should complete the rak’at.

7. In the second Rak’at, Imam should say 5 more Takbeeraat and then according to the details

mentioned in step 4, should complete the second rakat.

8. Then the Imam should deliver a sermon which is similar in procedure as for the Friday Sermon. The

order for the sermon is Tashahhud and Surah al-Fatihah, Sermon and then Khutbah Thania.

9. Offer silent prayers after the sermon.
