5.0PROCEDURES

PART A1. All apparatus was set up.2. The calibration kit was plugged into the Electrical Stability Tester to check the machine.3. Oil-based mud was poured into the beaker. The mud was stirred with the plug around 5 minutes.4. The TEST button was pressed at the Electrical Stability Tester and the data was recorded.5. The experiment was repeated three times and get the average value.6. Experiment was repeated with another samples, water-based mud.

Part B1. The Power supply was switched on.2. The upper chamber was packed with steel wool.3. Sample chamber was filled with the water-based mud and lid was replaced allowing excess sample to escape. Sample chamber was screwed with lid into upper chamber and hand tighten using square bar retort wrench.4. Retort assembly was replaced in heating compartment and insulating cover was putted in place.5. Wetting agent was added a drop in to the measuring cylinder and the measuring cylinder was placed under the condenser.6. The machine was turned on.7. The retort kit was allowed to be heated until the pilot lamp goes off. Wait until the chamber and the furnace to cool off.8. The steel wool was removed using the corkscrew and the chamber was cleaned with spatula.9. The retort drain tube and condenser was cleaned with water.10. The retort threads was cleaned and lubricated with high temperature lubricant.11. The result sample was weighted and data was recorded.
