    Procedure AutoCAD 2006 Menus

Change to menu system in R2006

With the release of AutoCAD R2006 and other software based on the 2006 version such as Civil 3D the previously used menu system has beenabandoned and replaced with a new system based on Customise User Interface (CUI)files. hese files are in !"# format and as such will not be readilyedited by the avera$e user with a te%t editor such as &otepad. Autodes' specifically advice that users do not attempt to do this.

    Advantages of the CUI system:

he earlier system of modifyin$ the user interface of AutoCAD by editin$ menu files in a te%t editor was powerful( but re)uired a learnin$ curve and therewas a si$nificant delay been the editin$ and loadin$ and displayin$ the results from the editin$( added to which the system was sensitive to minor te%tualerrors.

With the C*+ system the interface can be chan$ed while viewin$ it and then saved as a Workspace.Wor'spaces are readily chan$ed from the Wor'space oolbar( $ivin$ the user a number of the advanta$es of ,rofiles and-or "enu ,alettes from #andDes'top.%istin$ menu files from earlier versions of AutoCAD can be readily loaded into a C*+ file. he procedures for doin$ this are set out below.

    oading a custom menu!

Dependin$ on the Autodes'product the user interface atstartup will reflect that productwith different menus( toolbarsand palettes displayed. /ouwill need to display theWor'space oolbar. Chec' ifthe toolbar is already visibleit will be in standard

AutoCAD( but isn1t in Civil3D. o display it ri$ht mouseclic' on one of the standardAutoCAD toolbars such asthe one shown here not aCivil 3D one

rom the AutoCAD toolbar list to$$le the Wor'spaceoolbar on.

    he toolbar appears as above.

*se the mouse to dra$ the toolbar to your preferredlocation. Also turn on-off other toolbars as you re)uire andarran$e the toolbars and menu palettes to suit your needs.

hen use the toolbar to create a new Wor'space by pullin$down the list of Wor'spaces and choosin$ 4ave CurrentAs.

Choose a suitable name for the new Wor'space such asARD6.

&e%t type menuloadat the command line to open the menu loadin$ form.

At the bottom of the form set the file type toeither mns or mnu( dependin$ of which formatyour custom menu is in.

5rowse to the file( select it and then selectOpen.

    hen #oad the file.

All ,op menus in the file and all toolbars in thefile will be added to the current Wor'space andwill display immediately.

A$ain use the mouse to dra$ the toolbarsaround as suits your needs. When ready usethe Wor'space oolbar Save Current Asitemto save the current wor'space( overwritin$ theversion you first created.

/ou can then use the C*+ command to open the customisation form and modify the customisation as you re)uire.

he customisation process loads the new menu file into all Wor'spaces andas you will not normally wish to see the menus in other Wor'spaces( select aWor'space which will then be hi$hli$hted in 5lueas is Civil 3in theadacent view.

Clic' on the 7 beside the ,artial C*+ iles to open the ree 8iew and de9select the "enus and oolbars as shown.

Repeat this for each Wor'space to ensure that when you use the Wor'spaceoolbar you can select a user interface which suits your needs.

here are a si$nificant number of other aspects of the *ser +nterface which can be modified with the C*+ form. As you have the time and needyou can e%plore and ma'e chan$es.
