Championship golf and champion golfers have long been with the mystique of Merion Golf Club’s East and West Courses. Designed by Hugh Wilson, Merion’s East Course opened in 1912, has played host to more USGA Championships than any course in America and is home to some of its greatest moments. Founded in 1873, Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America, and members still toast Queen Victoria for designating it a “Royal” club on July 17, 1884. This club is one of only 66 bona fide Royal designated clubs in the world. It has a Blue course, a Red course, and a Dixie course to accommodate all levels of golf players. They have hosted the Canadian Open several times and held The Presidents Cup in 2007.

In 1897, a group of Chicago businessmen came together and formed this golf club. The land of Skokie stood atop a ridge that overlooked a savannah plain and in the distance was a wetland area. That portion is known as the “Skokie,” and it probably got its name from a Potawatomi Indian word meaning swamp or marsh. There have been four course layouts here, but it may always be known as the “Donald Ross Course” after the legendary designer who came to Skokie in 1914.

Rosedale is proud to be officially designated as a Donald Ross course and is ranked as the best classic golf courses in Canada.

Sunset Ridge didn’t start off as a country club. Instead, it started off as an idea shared by ten young men in 1922. With just three simple precepts, these young men set off on an adventure, guided by a mission that they referred to as “The Idea.” Founded in 1923, Sunset Ridge golf course was originally designed by William Diddel and underwent an award-winning renovation by Rick Jacobson in 2004. It has hosted the Western Open in 1972 and the Women’s Western Open in 1935.

The Apawamis Club was founded in June of 1890 by a group of Rye gentlemen with its original objective of being a social club. Hosting a variety of coveted events over the years including the 1911 U.S. Amateur, 1970 US Girls’ Junior, 1978 Curtis Cup, and the 2005 US Senior Women’s Amateur. USGA Rules (2019 Revision) Govern All Play except where modified by local rules

LOCAL RULE: A visible cut line at the edge of all putting green surfaces separates the Celebration Bermuda fairway grasses and the Tif-Eagle putting green grasses. Your ball is considered on the putting surface when it is inside of that cut line.

LOCAL RULE: On holes #9 and #18, if the players ball lie in or on the installed light fixtures or grass planting screens surrounding, or if the installed light fixtures or grass planting screens interfere with the player’s stance or intended swing the player is granted free relief.

Any player playing from a different set of tees then the competition is set, will take their handicap from that tee minus the difference in the course rating.

For your safety, please take relief from fire ant mounds & return to the clubhouse when lightning is visible or when the lightning detector sounds.

Newly staked trees interfering with stance or intended area of swing, take 1 club length from the nearest point of relief, no penalty.

Fixed sprinkler heads are considered immovable obstructions. You are entitled to line of sight relief if a sprinkler head within two club lengths of the green intervenes with line of play of a ball that is within two club lengths of said sprinkler head.

The story of The Country Club of Florida must begin with the story of the land. In March of 1955, Mr. Samuel M. Mitchell, attorney with the Chicago law firm of Bell, Boyd, Marshall & Lloyd, received a letter from his friend Robert Bruce Harris, a well-known golf course architect indicating that after a years-long search, he had at last found a south Florida site (a dairy farm) that satisfied all of his requirements for a new golf course.

Enter Carlton Blunt, a partner of Sam Mitchell, who saw the property and was so enthusiastic about the project that he founded the Country Club of Florida which opened on December 1, 1956, quickly attracting a national membership. With the help of Mr. Blunt’s friend and famous amateur golfer, Chick Evans, the club hosted three national golfing events: the Western Golf Association’s 56th Western Amateur Championship (first ever in the Southeast) in 1958, the 1960 National Mixed Foursome Championship, and the 1963 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Mr. Evans gave the club a sterling silver milk can representing the club’s connection with the dairy farm to be used as the men’s club championship trophy. Among the celebrity guests in the early years was the Duke of Windsor who landed his plane on the first fairway!

Fast forward to 1987, Arthur Hills was awarded the contract for remodeling the golf course. The 18-holes would maintain its creative and unique routing with both nines identical in their order of par fours, fives and threes. The design change was so dramatic in style and beauty that upon completion the thirteenth hole replaced number four as the club’s signature hole.

Nineteen years later, in 2006, Lester George directed the second course renovation. Ponds and lakes were deepened and enlarged, sand traps were increased to a total of eighty-three and the same routing sequence remained. His talent and imagination resulted in the creation of stunning and expansive views throughout a course surrounded by nature.
